For a chuckle...see note about an advisory committee to provide perspective between public and private schools.....

I categorically deny that I was on the debate team, but you'd think that future lawyers would gravitate to the podium.

It would appear that with this notice, the IHSA is drawing the line in the sand at 7 percent school participation in order to have an IHSA-sanctioned tournament.
Boys gymnastics had 45 schools play the sport this year and the sport was bounced.
Last fall, 8-man football had 27 schools participate.
So it would appear that 8-man has a ways to go to get into the IHSA-sanctioned world.
Note that Michigan this year (2023) has two divisions of 8-man football for their state playoffs with 97 total schools participating in the sport.
That said, they apparently have an enrollment cutoff for 8-man ball. Schools with 152 kids or less play in one division and schools with 153-235 play in the other. No school with more than 235 kids is playing 8-man ball.
Last fall, 16 teams competed in the 8-man playoffs in each class while 32 teams competed in each of 8 classes in 11-man ball. The 8-man tournament ended the weekend of the 11-man semifinals.
In Illinois last fall, 16 of the 27 teams competed in the 8-man playoffs.
