Weird A$$ game.
Again a tales of two halves just doesn't really do this game enough justice.
I truly thought that after the first half we were on our way to 40 point running clock time as JCA pulled out to a 31-0 lead.
The Hilltoppers dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. JCA ran it well and just controlled things well? Naz struggled to get much going on offense while the defense just had issues going toe for toe with JCA's line play.
Then?
Then the second half came and Naz looked more like Naz. The Road Runners made some terrific defensive adjustments/played better at the half including bringing up the S to play inside the box, read the JCA sweeps and counters and then just jump in the gap and make tackles. The adjustment forced JCA's running game to grind to a halt for the 3rd quarter. The Naz passing game got a bit on track and suddenly it was a game.
JCA played sloppy, weird and made just some really bad choices....and just had it's back to the wall for most of the second half. Yet the running game came thru later with a 4th quarter TD to clinch it...however Naz again threatened deep with under a minute to play and JCA hung on.
The sad reality is that these are still by far I feel the best two teams in 5A. Lots to come in the Scouting Reports.
