IHSA Adjusts Classification Cycle Board Meeting

I have no beef with changing the classification cycle.

I have a big beef with the following discussion item: "The Board discussed potentially developing a policy that would allow for the IHSA to partner with third-party groups that conduct state tournaments in Illinois in sports and activities that the IHSA does not currently offer. If developed and approved, the policy would allow a third-party group to continue to operate its state tournament, with the IHSA providing awards and support."

I don't want the IHSA anywhere near the state hockey tournament.

The state wants to do away with the prep bowl

Do you think that the Prep Bowl is the one thing making the state be righteous when it comes to the privates?

Now more than ever we as a community should support the prep bowl

Played lots of hockey on backyard rinks (including my own) growing up. Been to several state title games over the years at the UC, most recently about 5 years ago. From a production standpoint, it puts the IHSA football state title game to shame.

Doesn’t anyone which which 9 proposals moved forward to an all school vote?

Going back to using this Fall's enrollment for next year is a start. The Depaul Prep/ St. Laurence rule.
I thought they were using the year end enrollment which would be this May’s number for next fall

It has always been the number schools have to submit to the state at the end of September.

We've got some news
Would this affect the three playoff wins in two years to be multiplied or waived? For example, if Marist wins three playoff games next season, do the get the multiplier back the following season?

Is Brother Rice and Marist still going to be 5/6A?
All.... The tenor of this latest announcement by the Ihsa in my opinion suggests they are going to look at just about everything once again. Which would include the waiver policy affecting the above mentioned schools. Will it be changed? The whining is pretty loud. Stay tuned... TRatsy

I believe this will move some public schools around as well. I heard Batavia was two years away from moving to 6A. Looks like it will probably be next year now

As someone who just found out that there are two separate rule charters - IHSA By-Laws and Board Policy - can someone tell me which one dictates playoff setup? I imagine that has to be a by-law. I'm not wanting to launch that discussion in yet another thread, I just want to know for sure.

The one year enrollment number is a no-brainer. I wish it was current school year as schools can report their enrollments on Oct 1, but realize that's too short a deadline.

So if I'm reading it right the board acted on a very limited scope based on what they could as a board without full member vote?

Makes sense to move to 1 year enrollment.

Any idea what the member presentations about classication from Leroy and TriValley were about?

What's the earliest state series that starts? Seems like they'd have 4 weeks if that is when State Board has info? Or does it take additional time before state board publishes that data as well?

This is just me speculating - but Oct 1 is the first date they CAN report them, I haven't found a deadline for reporting them as its numbers as of the last day of September. I imagine you potentially run into a problem with delinquent submissions and I'd imagine there is some sort of verification process since there is likely funding tied to the numbers.

All.... I can usually come up with getting into web sites and find what I need but no real luck with ISBE to access a list with 2024 numbers. As TF mentioned maybe a work in progress. But the clock is ticking. Ratsy

The state still hasn't published the fall counts to my knowledge. Plus Golf starts around end of September and Volleyball and Soccer seeds come out beginning of October.

Thank you. So at best they could adjust for Winter or Spring enrollments to match sane year, but not fall.

ISBE posts Fall Enrollment counts in January/February for the current year (2024-25).
Fall enrollments are submitted through the ISBE IWAS system. The data also has a correction window.

Schools have a lot of comings and goings that first semester. Hard to get an accurate depiction

Fair, but for sports sake, we also hardly should care too much about perfection. "Close enough" should get us to where it needs to be to classify on enrollment.
