Hilltoppers 14 Fenwick 13 FiNAL

JCA 7 Fenwick 7 8:51 Q2. JCA run game bulldozing its way through the right side of the Friars defense. Friars picking apart JCA’s secondary.

OK only positives from me this week, and not because they were perfect.

JCA played well, better than the 14-13 score indicates. They actually spread the ball around and used the forward pass. Still made some bad play calls, bad mistakes and penalties. But they overcame all of that and some pass coverage lapses.

They're still Alive in 2024, but it's up to them.

Damn should just kicked the extra point to force overtime. Great game by JCA.
Generally agree. I wonder if the missed chip shot field goal late in the 2nd played into the decision making. If you feel there is only a 60-65% chance you make the PAT kick, perhaps it's worth it to roll the dice with the 50/50 2PC.

Didn't love a 4th and 3 naked bootleg in the middle of the game. Defense played outstanding. Offense needs to feed Magrini and cut the penalties. Passing game was ok. Connected on a few big pass plays. I don't see this passing game coming alive and being consistently reliable. But it will be necessary as a change of pace, back the defense up part of game strategy. The 6-10 times you throw it, you have to connect to keep that defense honest. Can't afford drops, sacks, etc. You have to make your limited drop backs count.

Defense holding the team together for JCA. Offense had just enough and should have had more. 0-4 on 4th down tries.
Most importantly they won the game the has to have. Well done!

IDK the Friars made the right call and it took an incredible plays by Jaw's-Mini-Me. to keep JCA's hopes alive.

Battaglia is usually very aggressive. I was actually surprised he went for the field goal late in the second quarter rather than trying to convert on 4th down, uncharacteristic of him. My guess is he thought going for it at the end there was preferable to a shootout in OT although Fenwick’s passing attack was really moving the ball. Either way great game and I feel confident in Fenwick going forward.

I promised that I would only be fairly positive, so I bolded some stuff I agree with. They definitely need to do some kind of roll out action or the QB will never survive the season.

And I agree with some of the play calling, but I'm not allowing myself to whine about any specifics. Overall the Hillmen played well and I'm happy for the Win.

No doubt. The key here is the win. Desperately needed that win. And with Marist and ND not impressing as much in week 3 as they did the first two weeks, it makes that path to 5 wins feel more possible. Still have to beat ND (not a given by any means) and DLS and then steal one toss up from Marist, Naz, MC, or PC.

I think the defensive line gets the game ball tonight. Getting constant penetration and wreaking havoc. Fun to see. Awesome to see the muffed punt great field position Fenwick got get stifled with a deep defensive stand. That was all on the havoc the D line created.

JCA line play on both sides of the ball was very good. Also liked that RB #28.

Really liked the Fenwick QB. That is a guy and a system that would typically give a JC defense nightmares and we get caught up in a 30-50 point shootout. The only reason it didn't happen is because the DL rose to the occasion. I see that QB having a nice season. He will put up some good numbers.

Just a huge win for the Hilltoppers when looking at their schedule going forward.

Yes he played very well, and more importantly several other runners played well also.

The OL is good as expected, the DL is so far overachieving and that's good.

Jr guy who won the QB battle Week 1 against OPRF. When he had time to throw he was really moving the ball down field, Fenwick will need to work on their Oline, gave up ground too quickly. It’s funny the game really did look like a shootout at first but devolved into bend don’t break defenses.

Fenwick's QB and Receiver wearing #2 were a fairly awesome combo.

Not Ty Issac, but who was the stud JCA RB a few years ago? Sorry for the random question but it’s bugging me.

2021 championship season was Jordan Anderson who went off for over 300 yards against Rice and over 300 against SHG in the title game. Ran alongside Vinny Iannantone who also ran for over 1,000 and carried the load when Anderson was dinged up for portions of the season. Anderson is with the Illini now and he is playing a "superback" position. Kind of a hybrid TE/FB/RB largely using his 6-3 245 pound frame to block from the backfield.

As you should.
That little QB is a player and his receiving corps snatched nearly everything thrown to them until the 2-Point attempt.
It was a very physical game and likely a few boo-boos in both camps this morning.
Come November they will be a tough out.

Anderson - fun to watch him run the ball, especially with his size. Hope he does well with U of I
