Happy New Year!!!

Star: Offensive Player to watch
Stud; Defensive Player to watch
Sleeper: Unsung Player, under the radar Player
Soon: Was going to make this category Soph but Juniors can be used so I called it Soon instead. Player we will hear about.

After watching my young St. Rita Mustangs Red and White Scrimmage, I came up with my list and was wondering about the rest of the state. So I pose the question to my Edgy Family. Who you got?

Star: SR RB Nick Herman Can he be St. Rita’s version of former Glenbard West Star Sam Brodner? Yeah, I went there with the comp.
JR WR Walter Jones Can he be St. Rita’s version of former Brother Rice Star Ricky Smalling. Yeah, I went there with the comp

Stud: ? Justin Buckner Put question mark at his position because he could/should be a BCS/FCS at 9 of the 11 defensive positions. Tweener status will hold back offers. Those that do would be wrong.

Sleeper: JR LB Owen Lynch. Can’t wait to see him along side 3 and a half year starter LB James Kingsbury. Middle of field D is in great hands

Soon: Sophs LT Mitch Street, DB Kyle Keyser, RB Brandon Johnson. Remember the names.

Don’t have to be as long-winded as me but I’m well-rested after taking the offseason off. But I’m back now. GIVE ME SOME NAMES TO WATCH!!! Thanks Fam!

Great to have you back Rock!!

Offense-RB Michael Dellumo
Everything you want in a high school RB. Strong, fast and plays with a chip on his shoulder.

Stud-DL Tyler Fortis
All State wrestler at Heavyweight. Extremely athletic for a big guy. Should have a whale of a season!

Sleeper-WR Niko Kokosioulis
Brother of former MS all time leading rusher Fotis. Just as shifty and a tad faster than his bro at this age.

Soon-QB Jameson Purcell
Will be ready to take over the MS offense. When he is finally given the keys to the Ferrari, I expect great things!

For Palatine:

Star: Will Santiago - QB : Trust me, a name you'll hear alot by season's end. Incredible arm, lightning fast and elusive runner, and just a winner in everything he does

Stud: Jaylen Williams - Edge : 5 star DE committed to Michigan. Actually only been playing football since his freshman year, so has room to grow yet skillswise, but physically just a beast who, at least at this level, can wreck havoc on any play.

Sleeper : Kole Fager - WR/Slot : All-Conference as sophomore last year, all around stud. This time last year I said he'd be All-State by the time he finished and I stand by that.

Soon : There are two-
Jordan Bostick - WR/Slot - younger brother of Jacob Bostick currently at Texas A&M. He's better than his brother was at this point, he just hasn't had the growth spurt yet his brother did. Fearless, aggressive, even a little cocky - understands how good he is and goes out to prove it every game

Ray Gaspard -RB : A 5'11" , 230 lb. running back. Think the IHSA version of Marshawn Lynch or Earl Campbell for you oldsters like me. Fast, shifty, or can just run right over defenders if need be. And he's just a sophomore.

Rochester
Offense: QB Bryan Zulauf. One of only three returning starters on the offense. Played very well as a Junior when injuries unexpectedly put him into the starting role Week 1. He's going to need to run more and throw it down the field more this year for the Rockets to be successful.

Defense: LB Jamal Bramer. Started the final three playoff games last year after Tyson Binion was injured. He's got size, is a big hitter, and will be a leader of the defense.

Sleeper: DE/TE Xander Bridge. Back after not playing as a Sophomore due to being on a year-round travel hockey team. He looked promising as a Freshman and it's great to get an athlete back on the team.

Soon: QB/WR Khordell Gregory. Starting QB for the Freshman. Looks like he will play WR for the JV. He might get some looks at wildcat QB for the varsity as well. Extremely fast with a cannon for an arm. Depending on how the season goes, he could be the first freshman since Hank Beatty to get significant varsity time.

Althoff Catholic High School Crusaders

Star: Dierre Hill is a shifty, 185-pound running back headed to Oregon. As a junior, he ran for 1,788 yards and 25 TDs on 13.6 yards per carry, caught 9 passes for 163 yards, and threw 1 TD pass. He also tallied 32 tackles, 3 INTs (1 TD), and 2 kick return TDs.

Stud; Jason Dowell is a sturdy yet nimble, 6/3, 275-pound defensive tackle headed to Mizzou. As a junior, he won the 1A heavyweight title, with his only loss at the hands of Jonathan Rulo, the 3A title winner and U16 folk, freestyle and Greco Fargo champ. Played first base and DH'ed during the spring. Is known to miss an occasional practice because he teaches Bible Study to youngsters and that comes first.

Sleeper: Patton Leib is an imposing 6/4, 255-pound middle linebacker and tight end who is looking for a home next year. Another multi-sport athlete, as well as the AD's son, he will play at some level. Coach Schott thinks a college S/C program gets him comfortably to 285, based on his frame as well as that of his father. He is a kid who knows how to play the game no matter the game.

Soon: Logan Thompson is a "string bean" speedster and kin to another Thompson who played at Althoff. The 5/11, buck-something (reportedly 150 pounds) wide receiver is already sitting on an offer from Mizzou. Expect sophomore Jayden Ellington to target the freshman as teams try to double Boston College-bound Charleston Coldon, who is the younger brother of CJ Coldon, who played at Wyoming and Oklahoma.

I’ll be honest @RockSoup as I near retirement my workload seems to have increased like I’m a rookie and the DNC didn’t help as I was unable to make the Brown and White scrimmage and get some good intel, but from what I’ve gathered I’ll give my 2 cents

Star- Jack Elliott, no reasoning needed.

Stud-Matt Mucha- MLB- Parker Startz got most of the defensive attention last year and deservingly so but at the end of the season Mucha had the most tackles and when you run at him head on, he wins the battle everytime. 5’10 tops but high motor and intensity. Very fun to watch.

Sleeper- Tristan Pustateri- OLB. Tristian started every game at OLB last year and did exceptional, just never got many props or headlines, but probably the strongest kid on the team and did above average as a junior, I’m guessing he will take it to another level as a senior.

Soon- MC will have three Sophs starting this year, and a forth getting lots of snaps. WR Quentin Burrell has had D1 looking at him since grade school. 6’3 WR was great as a Freshman but now has Elliott passing to him so look out. Taveras Harrington is a 6’2 Soph CB who has turned heads so far. Tall kid who will match up well with the taller WR’s. Also the other MLB is a Sophomore transfer, his first name is Rowan and I’m not going to butcher his last name but I’m told he is outstanding so far, reminds people of Kenenna Odeluga. Jeremy Harris is a 6’1 300 pound Soph NG who will he getting plenty of Varsity snaps….also I’m told there is a 6’4 330 Freshman DT that has been working with the Varsity, not sure if he will remain there or be sent to the Freshman team but Freshman blocking him in practice has been near to impossible, so we’ll see how he develops.

Mt Carmel LB Matt Mucha.

Is Matt any relation to former Montini star football / wrestler Mike Mucha??

Josiah Wallace is an interesting prospect for MC. He’s 6’6 270lbs and athletic. He also plays bball

Caleb Tucker is the 2028 linemen.

In regards to MC and all of the young talent cracking the starting line up

Is it a case of an abundance of exceptional talent or issues with depth amongst the upper classmen???

MC is loaded. People who have been writing them off will be surprised. Among "the young talent" you refer to, there is only one freshman--the monster lineman mentioned above--and six sophs, at least three of whom would be starting anywhere. Even my Tarot cards reader predicts that MC will beat Loyola.

Simply put, best players play. There is a lot of players on MC bench that can start at other schools very easily. It’s an open competition at many positions the day off season workouts starts. Whoever works the hardest wins the spot. Now that can change, and often does, very easily once the games start. When you have a 6’3 Soph WR and a 6’2 Soph DB and Big Ten schools calling about them, they aren’t doing them favors keeping them down on the Soph level to start the season. Some upperclassmen do get passed over but when you go to a school like MC or other successful schools you know it’s going to be a battle to be on the field for 4 years. They have players transferring out every year.

Besides Mucha, these are the names on this year's roster whose fathers, brothers, uncles, or cousins played for MC in the past: Emmett Dowling, Gavin Conjar, Jake Cozzie, Dominic Deluca, Buka Odeluga, and Mike Slawinski.

These are the ones I recognize. Maybe some other MC fans will have longer memories. And what about you fans of other schools? I'm sure there are many schools out there, public and private, who attract the same families across the generations.

Any feedback from Whips on the Rice scrimmage?
I would say the studs would be Pierce (if he stays healthy) could be deciding factor on getting an upset over someone like MC or Marist
Other up and comers would be Liggins, Gray (QB), Parks, Mrocek, etc
Sleepers will be DE Stec, DB Brown, OLB Stack, WR transfer from Rita (Maxson) and RB transfer from Marian Catholic.

Maxson isn’t a Sleeper, he’s a well known Star. Same could be said about the Marian Catholic transfer but it’s wait and see if he has the same success against the CCL Blue teams as he did against the CCL Red. Marist wouldn’t be an upset, especially @BR. I’d favor BR by a solid 7.

Who's writing them off? They are ranked #3 in the Sun-Times, #2 in the South town and #3 in Edgy's poll. Everyone has them as the prohibitive favorite to win 7A. No one is writing them off.

There's been a few doubters, maybe two, who argue that MC has lost a lot of seniors. Which is true, but not decisive.

MC Jack Elliot is heading into this season without a single offensive starter that he either threw or handed the ball to

Sometimes it takes a few games to truly gell… I can’t wait to watch them this Thursday

99/Pulaski

Star: QB CJ Gray (Jr, 6’0 185) - QB1…it all starts there

Stud: SS Conner Stack (Sr, 5’9 185) - leading tackler…maybe an Ivy Leaguer?

Sleep O: WR Daniel White (Sr, 5’11 175) - could end up the being most “productive” player on O

Sleep D: CB Donovan Moody (Sr, 6’2 190) - looks the part, has flashed at times, time to…awake (see what I did there!?)

Soon O: Ath Jameson Davis (So, 5’9 185) - will likely line up as RB, Slot, KR this season

Soon D: DT Brayden Parks (So, 6’3 285) - on multiple P4 programs radar

5-4 if ball bounces our way?

I’ll keep praying to the good man above.

3ow, How dare you enter a thread meant for the whole state that devolved into another Mt. Carmel thread? Stay in your lane or get in here before the Caravan faithful take the thread over to let us who they think has a shot at second string nickel back.

It’s ok. All can be forgiven by your egregious error over a bucket at McNallys this weekend. Thank you for the info, but please step aside, I need to know how the 2024 Caravan stand up to the 1950 Caravan.

Just from this thread and looking at rankings for the Class of 25 and 26, it's really cool to see just how many DL are being produced by this state.
