I think the IHSA dropped the ball here. Wish they would have just operated as
If last year didn’t happen.

Not sure how they came up with that decision but don’t think it was the fair thing to do.
It’s been rightly argued above that lower enrollments is not the main reason for the schools who dropped in class. It’s the loss of the multiplier that’s the issue. Thank you all for clarifying this.

The COVID season being used as an evaluative season for the application of the rule is perplexing, but understandable. I’m not saying ignore the COVID season altogether, because by doing so you are evaluating a schools success from three years ago rather than two. However, to include it and consequently have no data that affects the outcome of the multiplier is also incorrect. It’s going to have an impact next year too, as there will again be more schools who the multiplier rule won’t be correctly applied to since 2020 has a column of all zeros.

It might have been better to give every school one playoff win in the 2020 COVID season and keep the rule in place. Then those with two wins in the 2019 or the 2021 season would be multiplied. Just a stab at a solution that tries to honor the intent behind the rule to keep the classes rightly balanced.

Or just doubled 2019 with no 2020 (or) something like that.

And I mainly say this as a casual fan that would like to see JCA and those alike play bigger schools for their playoff run.
