Impact Player for Maroa Forsyth

Maroa Forsyth senior QB/DB Ryne Sheppard will be a three year varsity starter for the Trojans in 2025. Sheppard was able to throw for an impressive 3,365 yards and 46 touchdowns in leading Maroa to the Class 2A state title game last season (47-0 loss to Chicago Christian). Sheppard has also been a multi-positional athlete for the Trojans in his high school career (QB/S/OLB/RB) along with being a three sport athlete (football/basketball/baseball). Look for Sheppard to draw additional looks this summer and fall.

Looking for a sleeper name to watch for Maroa Forsyth? Maroa Forsyth senior WR Zach Smith led the team in receiving yards in 2024 (1,139 yards 13 touchdowns) who is a speedy and sure handed receiver and who will again be the main target for QB Ryne Sheppard and the Trojans spread passing attack in 2025.

EDGY's Preseason Thoughts on the 2025 Maroa Forsyth Trojans

Needless to say the 2024 IHSA state championship games were not a thing of beauty aand that included the Class 2A state title game that saw Maroa Forsyth get just swarmed under in a stunning 47-0 loss to Chicago Christian to end the season with a 12-2 overall record. Look for this incredibly proud football program under Hall of Fame head coach Josh Jostes to bounce back and again right back to the top of the Class 2A state playoff field this fall. Maroa Forsyth under Josh Jostes has made the IHSA state playoff field in 20 straight seasons, has won IHSA state titles in 2006 and 2012 and Jostes has posted an impressive 236-64 overall record in 25 seasons. Needless to say this coach and this school knows how to consistent win games and win deep into the state playoffs. My guess is they will once again win in double digits games and another deep run in 2025.

The biggest question facing Maroa Forsyth this summer?

Can Maroa get that last game of 2024 out of it's head? No question the loss to Chicago Christian was highky surprising and also highly unusual for Maroa to end the season. I'm getting the feeling this loss left a bad taste with a ton of fans, players and coaches in and around the greater Decatur area. I fully expect this Maroa team to be ready to roll in Week 1 and be on a serious mission this fall to get back to Illinois State and finish strong in 2025.
