Semifinals are here, and there are very few games to pick as an upset.......but it has to be done. This week we'll go to the 8A bracket. This week's upset is....... The Hawks of Maine South over the Redhawks of Marist. I know that MS is a higher seed, but that makes no difference here. These are 2 really good teams, and I expect an extremely close game. Final score in this one....... Maine South 24 - Marist 23. That's this week's upset. What are your thoughts and who is your upset?

I'm gonna go way out on a limb here and say the Warriors of Crete-Monee upset the mighty Flyers of East Side. CM has an offense that runs out of many different sets that may keep ESL on their heels. In addition, they have some players, especially on the O side of the ball that can play at a very high level. If they can get a few stops and play an error free game, one never knows.

I am going out there and pick the Porters of Lockport to pull off an upset of Loyola. Anything is possible and I say "GO BIG!" Lockport's offense is better than people think, and again, if the defense can keep them in it they have a real shot. I just wish the game was being played down here. That could make a difference. I know this is a very tall order in the idea they could win. The flip side is, they could get blown out. But, that's my pick.

It’s an interesting pick for sure. Loyola struggled mightily in offense last week. Seemed to throw it ok but running seemed to be a bit of a challenge. With a windy day forecasted tomorrow could be which team can run it best will move on.

I have to agree. I've seen the Porters play 4 times this year. They are a solid team. Their quarterback is as fundamentally good as any high school quarterback I've seen in my 50 years of watching HS football. If the Porters score first then I believe that they will win. Porters by 3.

Yah know I’ve waited a long time for the innuendo “Catholic League Tough” reference. Surprised it took this long.

Perhaps CM has a plan to sneak Laquon Treadwell in uniform?

I know everyone loves to play the underdog role.....and root for them....I just don't think Main South is the underdog here at Marist no matter how you slice it. Given Main's South's history, the coaching staff and the record in big games the only thing Marist has going for it is they are at home. Maybe enough. We'll see.

Nashville over St. Teresa
Oh be still my beating heart 🤍... you beat me to this upset pick. As a proud alum of NCHS and former Hornet player in the early '80s, I will agree and pick the #6 / 11-1 Nashville Hornets to upset the #1 / 12-0 St. Teresa Bulldogs. In an exciting semifinal game in 2019, the #5 Hornets travelled to Decatur and defeated the #3 Bulldogs 35-21 to advance to DeKalb. Take the '21 Hornets to win again and at home this time by the same score, 35-21, and I'll see y'all at Huskie Stadium Friday afternoon!

You serious, Clark? The higher seed is playing at home. Just hope BR can have a chance late in the 4th with the injury report I just saw.
Rice will be severly impacted with the guys doubtful to play. Shame for the kids

I honestly like both the WN and the Lockport picks this week, but I picked Loyola and Brother Rice to win it all.

In the "Playing for 2nd in State Bowl", I predict Morton grinds out a victory over Kankakee in a game of keep away while their "no recruiting love for no reason" RB has another 40+ carry game.

Anyone who thinks WN is the favorite immediately loses all rights to opine from this point forward. ******Edited as I just read the news about BR injuries. If they are substantial then WN is the fav.*****

Are they actual injuries or just BR fans talking on a message board? WN has been without their 3 year running back for half the year you just have to find ways to overcome and advance.

Lockport QB has NOT thrown an interception this season while averaging 200+ ypg in the air and 2 passing TDs per game. If Lockport can successfully throw, I believe they can "GO" (on to the finals).

And Lockport's starting QB didn't play in the game against LWE either.

Yeah, I saw that game and an interception by the back-up QB in the end zone was a huge play in the game. Can't fault the kid, though, the ball probably should have been run then anyway IMHO.
