One really, really stupid penalty….Two defensive penalties by Fenwick extended DGN’s last drive. Tough way to lose.
They had an excellent defense today…. Nothing up the middle for DGNDamn. Great season by the Friars. And a great effort against a big suburban powerhouse. Congrats to DGN.
I wasn’t able to catch the game but I heard one of the penalties was questionable, what was the penalty? One really, really stupid penalty….
Third and 6 and there was a jump ball with a crowd. Fenwick intercepted the ball and returned it to inside the DGN 30. Play was called called back for PI. I couldn’t tell if it was a questionable call or not.I wasn’t able to catch the game but I heard one of the penalties was questionable, what was the penalty?
I watched the TV feed. It definitely looked like there was something going on after the ball was knocked down by the Fenwick defender. I guess I assumed smack talk because it was a taunting penalty. I’ll take your word on what you heard until I hear different. There was no “smack talk.”
The ref said the Fenwick DB pulled the bottom of his jersey and pretended he was brandishing a weapon. Nobody at the game at the time saw this or understood this was the call, or even that this was a call that could be made.
I heard about the call after the game from someone who was on the field.
If anyone here has ever seen a “brandishing a weapon” taunting call made in Illinois high school football, I’d be interested to know. Otherwise, this was an IHSA first. Coaches should take note.
The call bailed out DGN, which would have been punting into a rainy wind to Fenwick, which has an excellent kicker, with 1:30 left.
After the weapon call, Fenwick forced another third down/long and intercepted / returned to 30 as described earlier. This likely would have led to a GW FG.
But the ref called PI and bailed DGN out again. I just watched the NFHS replay- there was no PI.
This all for the record.
Also for the record- life isn’t fair.
I thought the PI was questionable. Little more than smack talk. Check out 1:30 seconds of Q4….. NFHS.Third and 6 and there was a jump ball with a crowd. There was a third and long before that play Fenwick knocked the ball down but were flagged for taunting. I did see some smack talk going on.
Might be okay in the City of Chicago, don’t think it will fly in the burbs….There was no “smack talk.”

Busy watching the MC game. Odds are I’ll be done with watching HS football after watching this. I will be following the thread though.I thought the PI was questionable. Little more than smack talk. Check out 1:30 seconds of Q4….. NFHS.
Ohh, you didn't just go there. Gonna get ugly.....Might be okay in the City of Chicago, don’t think it will fly in the burbs….

Trying to bring it up full screen for a better look but I can’t. From what I see it’s what I saw in real time. A jump ball with Fenwick intercepting and a great return.
There was no “smack talk.”

I don’t like any celebration because I am old school and know it. That said if it’s a celebration that insinuates brandishing a gun. It’s definitely over the top. Inexcusable. If I were the coach and he was doing that he wouldn’t be on my team. No place in sports period. JMO.It’s actually a sincere, legitimate question.
Which player celebrations are ok and which ones aren’t? Does the IHSA release updated rules re what’s legal and what isn’t? Did they ban this one?
Or is supposed to be like obscenity, you “know it when you see it”?
I just talked to Coach Reggie Dunlop and he said someone threw a tire chain, hit him in the mouth. If said player was truly “brandishing a gun” not sure what there is to discuss…
BonesThe only thing that can stop a gun celebration is a good guy gun celebration. Definitely not rules.
Terrible call! Fenwick got robbed! Zero dog in the fight
Okay well there you have it. 😂Terrible call! Fenwick got robbed! Zero dog in the fight
Will they lawyer up again this year?Don't fret too much...Fenwick is used to getting jobbed by the zebras in the playoffs.
Pretty weird to play the martyr and no disrespect but not many would consider DGN a big powerhouse since they have been good for about 2 years now...Damn. Great season by the Friars. And a great effort against a big suburban powerhouse. Congrats to DGN.
It's what we've been told 🤷🏿♂️Bones
Interesting what would be considered a good gun celebration? I know we’re usually on the same page but I am not understanding what you are saying.
Yeah if you seen my other thread you can tell I don’t like excuses. Doc may have been right and I might of assumed he was blaming the refs so it struck a nerve. I don’t like excuses and I can tell you I have never made excuses for a loss. It happens and it will happen. Nobody knows better that East fans losing to finals to LA.It's what we've been told 🤷🏿♂️
I see it's now again okay to blame the refs for losses again. Funny how that works.
Unironically does feel like Fenwick has had a lot of last minute crushing losses in the playoffs. Boylan Catholic in 12’, Wheaton North in 13’, getting royally ****ed by the refs in 16’, and now this. Fenwick returned it to the 30 yard marker with less than a minute left, well within Sur’s range.Don't fret too much...Fenwick is used to getting jobbed by the zebras in the playoffs.
Damn a 47 yard FG is well within his range?Unironically does feel like Fenwick has had a lot of last minute crushing losses in the playoffs. They got one call....they called the pizza guyI just talked to Coach Reggie Dunlop and he said someone threw a tire chain, hit him in the mouth.
