Back for a second year...the DS Stock Game.
For those of you looking forward to playing again or any interested newcomer, here is some initial detail on the game. Returning players, there are a few changes. Changes will be marked by ***'s.
1. The stock game is a spreadsheet driven game in which all teams making the 5-8a playoffs are assigned an initial IPO price and all players are given Darkside money to spend buying team IPO.
2. The goal of the game is to be the team that has the largest portfolio at the end of the playoffs.
3***. A team's IPO is based on their Darkside seed (seed/32). Important note, @DeanOfSelection is the official Darkside seeder. We do not use the IHSA seeds because, frankly, they are not meant to be true seeds and using them imbalances the game. Further, we are using 1-32 for all classes...why doesn't the IHSA do that?
4***. All players will be give an initial purse of $3000.00 to spend buying IPOs (was 4k last year).
5***. This year, you may NOT purchase more than 20 shares of any team (last season unlimited).
6***. Any monies not spent purchasing teams is gone. (last season was added ... too much work...)
7. Every week in the playoffs teams win or lose. If team loses, their stock goes bankrupt and you lose all your money.
7a. If a team wins, their value goes up. A share goes up an amount equal to their seed - every win/round. So, for example: a 1 seed will have an IPO price of 32 (32/1). If at any time, that 1 seed loses, the stock drops to zero. If that 1 seed wins in round 1, that team's stock rise to 33 (IPO plus seed); if that team wins in round 2, the stock rises to 34...if the team wins a title, at the end of the playoffs, their would have risen to 37. If you had ten shares in that team, your portfolio (specific to that team) would have started at: 320 and risen to 370.
To show the other end of the spectrum: if you bought 10 shares of a round 32 seed, and that team won the title, your portfolio would have gone from 10 to 1610.
8. You can sell a stock at any time and bank that money.
9. You cannot re-invest that money. (the game might be a lot more fun if you could. the truth is, that is a lot of work for one man to do. if there are a few of you that want to take on this challenge and help, i'm game - otherwise, just cannot be done.)
10. At the end of the playoffs, the player with the largest portfolio wins.
