They Said It! Quotes from Those Around the Southwest Prairie East Conference

"Plainfield South has a really nice core of players back."
"Joliet West will need to replace the lost offense from (Trenton) Howland bit they will still be pretty solid ."
"(Plainfield) East always seems to have some kids and the big boy (Michael Jimmar) could develop into something."
"(Plainfield) Central just doesn't seem to get the higher talent level kids they used to get over the past handful of years."
"Romeoville still struggles with numbers but I like the new staff. They really coached up those kids last spring."
"(Joliet) Central doesn't have much talent or numbers but they play harder than other teams in that conference."

Preseason Conference Most Valuable Player?

Joliet West senior RB/LB Bryan McCoy or Plainfield South junior RB Brian Stanton

Joliet West senior LB Bryan McCoy is a hard nosed sideline to sideline linebacker who is also a major hitter and leader for the Tigers. Look for McCoy to get some reps this fall at running back as the Tigers look to get more punch into the ground game. Plainfield South junior RB Brian Stanton has been the Wolves main offensive weapon for the past few seasons. Stanton has great speed and burst, yet also can and will run inside the tackles and run with power just as effectively as he can outside the tackles.

Toughest Overall Schedule?

Joliet West-
The Southwest Prairie Conference allowed teams to schedule one true non conference game this season, the first time since merging a handful of seasons ago. The Tigers open up on the road at Lockport to kickoff the season. The Lockport games years ago was one of the biggest rivalry games in the Joliet area, and the Porters are expected to have a big year.

Sleeper Player to Watch?

Plainfield East senior WR Mike Morgan-
Morgan will be a multi-year starter this fall for the Bengals and he will be asked to provide leadership and offensive production while also helping to break in a new quarterback in Quinn Callaghan. Morgan has great hands, runs good routes and has the ability to stretch the defense on deep routes.

Top 2021 Conference Games?

Plainfield South at Romeoville
September 24th- Can Romeoville maybe pull off an upset win over Plainfield South here? South is coming off four straight tough games on the schedule (West Aurora/DeKalb/Yorkville/Plainfield North) then takes on Romeoville in this Week 5 conference open.

Plainfield East at Plainfield Central October 2nd-Plainfield Central still to this day insist on playing a Saturday homecoming game..and the weirdness of Saturday day game along with the fact that Central always seems to get "up" for homecoming makes this a potential trap game for East.

Plainfield South at Joliet West October 22nd-If this isn't for all the marbles in the East....then at minimum this will be for IHSA playoff position jockeying.

Southwest Prairie East Conference Statement Game?

East schools who scheduled a true out of conference non conference game-
Kudos to Joliet Central (Argo) Joliet West (Lockport) Plainfield Central (Addison Trail) Plainfield East (Shepard) and Plainfield South (DeKalb) for taking full advantage of the non conference opening this fall. I truly believe the best way to challenge yourself is getting outside of the SWP East cocoon and seeing how well you shape upn against other programs. Now be prepared....the results could get ugly at times...but in the end I feel the East will get better because of these games.
