So what is the biggest question facing the 2021 Lincoln Way East Griffins this fall? Make sure to check back here daily for new teams and the biggest questions each day leading up to IHSA Fall Football Kickoff.

Team: Lincoln Way East Griffins

Biggest Question?

Lincoln Way East and head coach Rob Zvonar has simply built up one of the top public school football programs within the State of Illinois in his tenure. Lincoln Way East has never not made the IHSA state playoff field since the school first began playing varsity football back in 2001. Zvonar has compiled a 197-39 overall record in 20 seasons and has won Class 8A state football titles in 2005, 2017 and 2019. Most impressive is how consistent of a winner the football program has become along with the large rosters assembled year in and year out.

The Biggest Question? Will the talent well ever run dry in the greater Frankfort area?

The easy question here would be to ask the obvious.....and that would be can the Griffins reload and keep winning in 2021. Obvious? Sure it's obvious since the Griffins seems to play a huge amount of seniors, and in many cases they play seniors who have limited varsity playing experience due to such a large and talent stacked roster. However, those same limited experienced seniors are always well prepared and always get the job done. So at this stage, we can all expect East to be at it's best again this fall despite bringing back just a handful of names with varsity experience.

Lincoln Way East is located in an area that is just stacked with athletic talent and that talent level just never seems to slow down. Look at any number of the various junior high sports programs and you'll immediately notice multiple IESA state titles in multiple sports year in and year out. The surrounding areas also support athletics tremendously and the area features in house and travel sport programs that just never seem to see any huge drop-off in numbers. Multiple youth football feeder programs still remains active, features multiple programs and still have maintained solid overall numbers....a rarity in youth sports these days.

Add in a Lincoln Way East high school program that works well with those same feeder programs, has quality coaches at all levels including the frosh/soph levels. East also finds a way to keep large numbers of kids still involved and still playing football despite the fact that many of those kids will see very limited varsity reps.

So I've heard some rumblings about how maybe the talent level is down and how the overall depth is less now compared to say 5-7 years ago. East a few years back had much more depth and talent in the 2's and 3's compared to now.....yet in this day and age do most programs have any 2's or 3's anymore? Again this is a nice problem to have for Lincoln Way East if it's indeed an issue.

So will the talent level every run dry at Lincoln Way East? I doubt it and I fully expect this program to reload and be it's usual impact program this coming fall.
