0:13 left to play with Score tied at LWE 17 & NC 17 - After a roughing the passer penalty on East moves the ball down to the 18 yard line, NC then proceeds to complete a roll-out pass near the sidelines for about an 8 yard gain - the NC receiver rolls over a few times to try to sell that he was OOB but to no avail - so the clock reads 7 seconds and ticking when the side judge tosses the ball for it to be spotted - the NC QC prepares to spike the ball (no TO's left) with 3 seconds remaining but has to step away from center to identify 2 players to shag off the field because there are 13 players on the field- the 2 guys who start to run off the field are right at about the hash marks - say 20 yards from the sideline - they start to run off the field with the clock at 0:03 and then when they clear the field he gets under center, gets the snap and spikes the ball- whistle blows with - you guessed it - the clock at 0:01. I am not saying the Griffins got homeschooled here, but all that action in 12 seconds??
Well East should have put them away in the 1st half -up 14-3 with 5 mins to go in H1, the Griffins had a 3rd and 1 at the 25 ish of NC - back to back half-hearted run plays nets a loss of 2 and turns the ball over to NC - at that point I knew the Griffins were doomed.
But back to the quick finger on the clock at the end of game - well, IF the NC clock guy cheated a bit, well shame on them! The players who had to run the 20 yards must have ran that dash in record time!
But NC came out to play in the 2H and it was all defense on both sides - the Griffins seem to wear down a bit - I'm not sure how deep they are. Not sure if a 4th state crown (a 3rd in 4 years) is on the horizon for the Griffins but they seemed like world championship contenders in the first half at least!

IMO
I make no excuses for East. Congrats to NC. East had its chances to win that game on the road. They didn’t get it done. LWE was eventually going to lose a game. This loss will pay huge dividends for this young team and by the time the playoffs come they will be ready. Coach Z is a master motivator that doesn’t get enough credit for his coaching.

Did the clock stop erroneously during that time that you saw while watching the action and clock simultaneously?
the clock was operating as expected - the last thing I remember aside from the NC winning FG was that when I saw the clock at 0:02 I actually stopped watching and started toward the end zone I where I expected OT to happen thinking to myself that we sure caught a break and immediately tried to remember the last OT game I saw - then I heard a whistle a few seconds later and when I saw the clock at 0:01 is was truly a WTF moment.

They surely had their chances to win, in fact IMO they should have put that game away before halftime - less than 30 yards to go for another TD to make it 21-3 - when on a 3rd and 1 they tried the middle on 2 consecutive plays - that is when NC came to life!! The way the D and Special Teams were playing, I was thinking realistically a 28 - 3 game at half - but kudos to NC.
I think the play of the game actually was in the 3Q with LWE up 17-10 and NC was punting from their 30 and the snap appeared to be going over the head of the punter but #10 (6'3" ish) leaped up a grabbed it one-handed and got off a decent kick - that could have been East ball deep in NC territory - but credit #10 on NC

and I walked away because NC was still attempting to get a player or 2 off the field still and the QB was not quite under center

Sounds like the clock operator was looking at the WR out of bounds instead of focusing on the ref signal

The clock guy kept it rolling for sure at that point I am just convinced he stopped it at 1 second well before the ball was spiked. I might be wrong but all that actin in 12 seconds is questionable
