Looks like there will be a couple great round two matchups and huge quarterfinal matchups! IC is the favorite but I wouldn’t count out Princeton and I really wouldn’t count out reed custer!!

IC clear path to the semis. Stillman Valley is good and Princeton is better, but neither will beat IC.
RC will have a tough game in the rematch at Byron. Byron’s muddy and slippery field is the set up to neutralize spread offenses. RC gets past that one it should set up a semifinal vs IC in Braidwood.
Can’t wait.

I bet IC has twice as many, if not more, kids dressed than RB, Princeton, Stillman and Byron have on their roster. Maybe half of em are underclassman, I don’t know, but seems they are probably the deepest team in 3A depth wise.

With that said I’m not buying IC gna roll over Princeton. Princeton has the most balanced offense IC will face all yr. Additionally, I think Princeton is more disciplined than IC with regards to penalties.

I don’t think Princeton defense can stop IC, but I think IC offense can stop themselves with flags. If Princeton wins, a balanced O and Ws in the TO and Penalty margin are what will do it.

Go Tigers!

Looks like it should play out with ic making the trip to Braidwood in the semis I agree, I think it’s going to be a much tougher game than what most think as well, RC has weapons all over the field on the offensive side of the ball and if they can manage to slow #14 and the run game down a bit ic may be in trouble!

IC has about 28 varsity players. For home games they dress all levels so their roster looks way bigger than it is

Hope this happens as I really want to make that trip.

IC plays several balanced teams. I wouldn’t say Princeton is the most balanced offense IC will face this year.

I’ll say Princeton and RC haven’t seen anything close to # 14 and #7 from IC.

RC also very balanced. Statement that Princeton is most balanced that IC will face is, at best, debatable given what they’ve already seen and the fact that RC is a possibility.
RC and Princeton definitely have not seen anything like IC this year. Princeton did get an opportunity last year in a 31-7 loss.
Both teams play weaker schedules than IC did by a long stretch, but IMO Princeton conference schedule is a weaker than RC’s.

IC is the favorite. I give Princeton very minimal chance at an upset. I give RC a better chance at it, but again @dcaudle68, IC is the consensus 3A favorite.

I agree on RC, when I made the statement about Princeton i was assuming yhat it was based on their schedule at that time, ie before IC even matches up with RC im future round.

I agree that IC is the favorite. Princeton and Braidwood are very good but not quite at the level of IC. Does that mean that they can't beat them? No but it will be a task. I find it odd that nobody is putting Byron in the mix. Are they as good as years past? No but they are still Byron and have been in every situation before. I wouldn't count them out just yet

Byron is absolutely in the mix imo. Good call.

State Champ Byron hosted RC last year in the mud and barely squeaked by. RC is so much better this year. I don't see them having a problem at Byron no matter what the weather does. Then RC gets Princeton or IC at home and I don't see them losing to either team. No disrespect to Princeton or IC, but people just don't realize how good this RC team is. I guarantee Princeton or IC hasn't played a team this good all year. I really believe that RC is the team of destiny in 3A. They are scary good. Admittedly, I just glanced at the South bracket, but I don't think it matters who they send to Champaign. It's the year of the Comets 💫

You think RC is better than JCA?

I hope Prairie Central is good. Really don't want to see 45-0 in the title game.

Here's one that actually might happen, and Calpreps projection:

neutral field
[2022] Reed-Custer (Braidwood, IL) 31, [2022] Immaculate Conception (Elmhurst, IL) 30

RC and JCA will never play, so why both with a game that will never happen.

When I looked at IC's schedule, I didn't see an RC on there.

That looks identical to the St. Francis, IC Calpreps projections and we now know how that game turned out.

I've seen quite a bit of Reed-Custer this year. I've seen IC v JCA and St. Francis.

I know R-C returned all but a couple kids from last year. Seems like IC returned a bunch also. Both played Byron last year to last second nailbiters and came out on the short end. I think IC was young last year. I know RC was, as almost their entire team was juniors. RC appears to have drastically improved from last year.

The bulk of the RC kids have been playing varsity since the spring covid year as sophs. Maybe it's recency bias, but in my mind, RC has the most across the board talented team I remember seeing in the conference. IC has more top end speed, but the gap won't be as drastic as against most of the rest of the 3A field.
RC line play is good enough to go toe to toe as well. That was the area that most surprised me when I saw them this season as that unit has been outstanding.

I think if it happens in a few weeks, it will be a great game. Outside of some kind of nightmare turnover fest or something else weird and unforeseen, that would be a great game and RC certainly has a shot.

I hate calpreps, yes they can predict obvious matchups but I’ve seen them call a game to be close or a blowout too many times and that not to turn out to be remotely true.

For example I think they had the RB vs Morris game within a field goal and everyone saw how that turned out

I remember doing a calpreps projection when CC played Richmond Burton in 19 in the Semi Finals and had CC losing by 1. Then it was 30-0 so there is that LOL
