Impact Player for Troy:
Senior QB Nic Funk (5-foot-11, 175 pounds) is an experienced two way threat in the Knights offense and will again be asked to spearhead the play action passing game while also managing the option running game as well this fall. Funk is a very capable passer with a good strong and accurate arm. Funk also makes good reads and decisions inside and outside of the pocket.
EDGY's Quick Take on the Troy Knights
The Knights (7-3) made the 2021 Class 5A state playoff field and lost to Morton in opening round action to end the season. Troy and head coach Paul Bassler welcomes back a very strong team this season backed by a deep and experienced offense which posted a ton of points and production in Mississippi Valley conference play last fall. If the Knights can reload at a few key spots (DB/LB) the overall talent level and experience can carry this Troy team quite a bit this coming season. Look for Troy to challenge both Mascoutah and Highland for the top tier of the Mississippi Valley conference race this season. Troy also will get consideration for being ranked in the 2022 Preseason Class 5A Top 10 preseason polls.
