Impact Player for Shepard:

Senior RB/LB Xavier Rogers (5-foot-10, 185 pounds) is a steady two way starter and impact performer for Shepard over the past few seasons. Rogers will again be asked to lead the Astros running game along with being a top tackler and run stopper on the Shepard defense this season.

EDGY's Quick Take on the Shepard Astros:

The Astros (5-5) made the 2021 Class 7A state playoff field and lost to Prospect in opening round action. Shepard and head coach John Rone had an up and down season in 2021, having started the season 0-4 then rolled 5 straight wins to get playoff eligible. Look for Shepard to look towards a solid core of returning starter back especially on offense with 5 starters back in the fold. The biggest question for Shepard this summer is can they reload this summer especially on the offensive and defensive lines? Shepard is seeking to make it's 7th straight state playoff appearance and the 4th under head coach John Rone this season, as the Astros program has somewhat quietly been on a nice program run. Once again the early portion of the schedule won't be easy with the likes of TF South, Plainfield East and Hillcrest will be big early test fr this program in 2022.
