Impact Player for Kankakee:
Senior WR/S Jyaire Hill (6-foot-2, 180 pounds) is a talented two way player who will end up playing at the Power 5 level in college. Hill is a speedy, twitchy athlete who's overall combination of speed, strength and explosiveness is highly impressive and Hill will be a huge go to guy this season for the Kays.
EDGY's Quick Take on the Kankakee Kays:
The Kays (13-1) made the 2021 Class 5A state playoff field and lost to Fenwick in the 5A state title game to end the season. Kankakee posted a perfect 9-0 regular season, then defeated Carbondale, Morgan Park, Marion and Morton before losing to Fenwick. The Kays and head coach Derek Hart and staff have turned the Kankakee football program into a major power to watch in Class 5A. Look for the Kays to rely on a strong core of returning starters back (5 offense 7 defense) this fall including a few impact names led by senior WR/S Jyaire Hill. Also keep an eye on incoming transfer RB Tony Phillips (Bishop McNamara) who will give an already explosive team yet another big time threat this fall. The biggest question for Kankakee is can the Kays reload at a few key spots (QB/LB) and not skip a beat this season? Look for Kankakee to again become a major player in the South suburbs/Southland conference and in Class 5A this fall.
