Impact Player for Crystal Lake Central:
Junior QB Jason Penza (6-foot-2, 185 pounds) is an impressive signal caller for the Tigers who looks to have the overall physical tools and makeup to develop into a potential FBS level quarterback. Penza showed off a strong arm last season and this summer, and look for Penza to draw plenty of additional recruiting interest and attention this fall.
EDGY's Quick Take on the Crystal Lake Central Tigers:
The Tigers (8-4) made the 2021 Class 6A state playoff field, defeated Amundsen and Deerfield before losing to eventual state champion Cary Grove in the quarterfinals to end the season. Look for the Tigers and head coach Dirk Stanger to lean on his core of returning starters this summer including standout junior QB Jason Penza to lead the spread passing game from the Tigers. Tye biggest question for the Tigers this summer is can the reload especially upfront on the offensive and defensive line? Having a solid and experienced linemen group is an absolute requirement in the rugged Fox Valley Conference. Look for the Tigers to again challenge for an IHSA state playoff spot this fall.
