Impact Player for Belleville East:
Senior OL/DL Anthony Cunningham (6-foot-4, 285 pounds) is a multi-year starter and impact player for the Lancers. Cunningham, who is already verbally committed to Iowa State will again be asked to provide production and leadership on and off the field for East this fall.
EDGY's Quick Take on the Belleville East Lancers:
The Lancers (3-6) had an up and down season in 2021 including losing it's first four games to start the year. However, the Lancers also -saw some real light at the end of the tunnel winning 3 out of it's final 5 regular season games along with playing rival O'Fallon close in 20-17 loss. The Lancers and head coach Michael Harrison welcomes back a ton of experience back this fall including 16 returning starters (8 offense 8 defense). The main question for the Lancers this summer is can they get out of the gates quickly with what I feel are three potentially winnable games in Collinsville, Pekin and Metea Valley? If Belleville East can start the season at say 2-1 they should be able to find 3 more wins and qualify for a state playoff bid in 2022. Belleville East last made the IHSA playoff field in 2015.
