Impact Player for Coal City: Senior WR/DB Asa Cooper. Cooper has been a varsity mainstay over the past few seasons and brings a high skill level and experience on both sides of the football this coming season.

EDGY's Quick Take on the Coal City Coalers: The Coalers (12-1) had one of those team of a decade squad in 2019 and fell just short losing to eventual 4A state champion Richmond Burton in the state semifinal round. While the Coalers welcome back a good core of returning starters from a season ago in 2020, several key longer term starters have graduated from a season ago. Despite the graduation losses, I still look for the Coalers to contend for a Illinois Central 8 conference title and to be a tough out once again in the 4A state playoff field.
