What's going on with Batavia?

Any insights from fans or rivals?
Very similar team to what they always are. Great defense and a pro style offense. They have been playing a sophomore QB more and more as of late and the offense has been better.

I don’t think this team is as good as years past. The caravan will be just fine.

Batavia will never be able to hang with the elite of the CCL until they change up their offense. Not going to line up and run the ball for 4quarters against these teams.

I don't know much about them, but I know they will be good and well coached as always. I also know that they hate Mt. Carmel and all the private schools. If I were them, and I was knocked out by the Caravan evey year........ I'd hate them too. Should be a great game between 2 really good teams. GO MC!!!

As it always seems to get twisted at some point when the two play, I'll try and be as clear and obvious as possible. Just like every year they have played, I think MC will win, unfortunately. Batavia will need to play their most complete game of the season to pull an upset. They will need to stop messing around with the two QB stuff and stick with the soph who bailed them out in the second half against both LW teams this year. On defense, they will need to keep Elliott in check as much as possible. No small feat. Personally, I think their biggest issue will be slowing down the MC WRs.

So do I think Batavia CAN pull the upset? Yes. Do I think it's likely? I do not. Think something similar to the MC vs BR game.

@Brin22 may I ask how you found that?

I would like to to look at that for other teams

I'm hoping for a close, exciting well-played football game with good officiating. I expect MC to win, but you never know. I do respect the consistently good program that Batavia has built and I always like these small town teams where the entire community rallies around the high school football program. May the best team win.

The biggest issue that I see for Batavia is the completion percentage of the sophomore QB

Their receiving core did a phenomenal job against LWC
- Isiah Brown had an incredible game

Chase Osbourne and Xavier Blanquel are the names that you will hear being called a lot
Blanquel has 9 sacks for the season

Burrell has 72 receptions for 1,200 yards and 15 TDs.....wow.....72 receptions for 15 TDs used to be the 5 year combined total of the entire WR corps at MC....and he's just a Soph.

Despite the comments of many of the posters, I'm expecting a close game Saturday. I believe the Batavia program learned its lesson that revenge is a poor motivator.

Go Carmel!

The only people who brought up revenge over and over again have been the MC posters on this board. Winning a state championship is more than enough incentive on its own
It's been quoted by many Batavia players over the last few meetings in the articles that this is the game they want, they haven't forgotten the year before, stuff like that, but it's pretty much the media that instigates the question to them to make a more entertaining article. Revenge factor only gets you through the kickoff, then you have to play the game.

I remember the revenge game against Naz too, and their incessant need to say they all come from one town, that’s great but what’s the big deal? Expand the gene pool, it might be good to get some fresh blood in town! Be welcoming to outsiders not just head strong on only allowing insiders into your life. I think the idea of having a school that welcomes everyone would be beneficial to everyone.

Here in Pa if you live in a failing school district you can chose another school, public or private, and if you meet the standards you can transfer in and your funding travels with you to fund your education at the receiving school. It’s shocking to see how the schools actually get their classrooms in order to avoid losing their funding from the tax base and the state!

O/U on combined receiving yards and receiving TD’s. I want to know what you consider “BIG”?
Man… I am torn

The sophomore QB is about 60% on his completions

MC defense has had issues with every team that has a decent QB

The Batavia receiving core is legit… I have questions on the young QB

Kid can sling it, he's just inexperienced. Has yet to get in a real groove because they swap him out with the other qb

I've been critical of MC's defense this year as it's been different from what MC's fan were spoiled with the past two seasons defensively but let's take a look at the QBs MC faced this season week in and week out.

Hun QB ended up with the second most passing yards in the Nation. Broke New Jerseys All time passing record.

SR QB Steve Armbruster All Conference CCL Green, broke SRs single season passing yard record, played against him 2X this season

Naz QB Logan Malachuk All State, All Conference, CCL Green Offensive Player of the Year, 4 year starter, possible 3x State Champion QB

Iggy QB Jack Wanzung 2024 CCL Blue All Conference 2023 CCL Green Player of the Year

Benet QB Jack Kubacki CCL All Conference, Purple Conference Offensive Player of the Year

BR QB CJ Gray- Hon Mention CCL Blue All Conference

Fenwick Jamen Williams- 1st team CCL White All Conference.

Loyola QB Ryan Fitzgerald- All State, All Conference QB, Big Ten Bound

St. Charles North QB Ethan Plumb- All State, 3X All Conference, 4 year starter, broke numerous records, in Batavias conference and was completely overwhelmed by MCs Defense.

Iron sharpens Iron. I'm not saying Batavias QB doesn't have talent. I watched the LWC game and he made some nice throws and as only Sophomore I'm sure he will have a similar successful career as Ryan Boe did at Batavia. But looking at the QB's MC has had to face this year, he's nothing MC hasn't seen numerous times and I don't think he is their main concern this week.

Mostly agree. Who do you think is their main concern? Whitwell?

The running backs they have faced is as impressive as the QBs. MacPherson, Herman, Lofton, that beast from Normal and the entire JCA backfield. The schedule they play is ridiculous. Hun not included because they play a national schedule, but of the remaining 7 made the State Playoffs, 4 made the semis and 3 are in the State Championship game (Loyola, JCA and Naz). The one that didn't make the playoffs was Iggy and they are playing in the Prep Bowl Championship. They have been tested each week.

I really don't think it's one player on their team, like I've said they've played against better or comparable at each position. If that sounds like a knock on them it's not, it's just what it is. But what I'm imagining they are concerned with is the fact they Batavia is a well coached, we'll prepared team that isn't showing up to a gun fight with a pocket knife, they have players, they will have a good game plan and see what happens. They aren't a flash in the pan program that's just happy to he here, they are good every year for a reason. That's why I hate the "One Town, One Team" they throw at MC. Do they have different water in Batavia that creates great players and team each year? No, they have a great system and formula that these kids buy into and commit too. Same thing at MC. It's not the players it's how they play and execute the game plan the Coaches lay out.

With 20-25mph winds

Which team has the stronger running game?
MC has Elliott and he's healthy, advantage MC passing and running. While MC occasionally airs it out with long passes their offense isn't designed to where you have to rely on 50 yard heave passes. When your Coach is a Heisman Finalist QB he knows what works in different weather and they have numerous plays that are factored in for different weather situations. I'm sure most teams do as well.

This absolutely reads like a hater comment because MC has faced better cumulative QB competition than most teams outside of the CCL/ESCC. But to put some context to the accolades as a measuring stick for talent…

There are no honorable mention all conferences and their are no “1st team” all conferences. Iggy passes maybe 8x a game if they are chasing points. 3/4 QBs in Benets division made all conference (same w/ Rita. Somehow SF QB didn’t get it, but coach did give it to their 3 WRs)
