Week 13 CCL/ESCC RockSoup® Prediction Thread

Alright men of the CCL, I need your help. I really enjoy reading your posts each week, you guys are the best. I am a 26 year coach from the suburbs whose son finished last spring at Naz and now is playing football at Navy. I now work for National Preps (took over for Clint Cosgrove) and cover Chicago for all the colleges that use our service. It has been a ball getting out and about all over the city/state this past year. But...Here is what I need from you guys...

My FAVORITE THREAD, hands down, of the year was the St Rita vs. Prospect one (a game I attended also.) I teach social studies and next semester will be teaching History of Chicago for the first time. We do a unit on Chicago music. I am a music fanatic and cannot wait. The current teacher is young and covers all the hip hop stuff in our city along with the grunge movement from the 90s(which I loved in college.) You guys blew my mind with all the members of the 70s rock bands that attended the CCL. I knew many of those bands came out of Chicago but I was dying when you guys kept dropping the names and schools. So I want to give the CCL it's rightful place in my history class. Can you guys message me back the names of the artists/bands and what schools everyone went to? I am literally going to use it in class. You can either do it right here or DM me on twitter @CoachChris_Roll or email me at school croll@lphs.org. Thanks you guys. Good luck to Loyola, MC, Naz, & Providence. I saw all of them this year in practice/games and have crazy respect for all the coaches and teams.

Off the top of my head:
St. Rita Ray Manzarek the Doors. I know as Ray got older he began to appreciate St. Rita reaching out to him. I know sometime in the 2000’s he met with the concert band. John Donovan is the lead musical director at the school but was not there when Ray was alive. But he might know more or point you in the right direction.

Mendel Peter Cetera Chicago: You could probably call St. Rita again and see who is most involved in coordinating Mendel alumni questions. I think they (Men of Mendel) have recently met at St. Rita so I think any questions you have could get you to a correct person to answer them.

ND guys can help with their Chicago band member(s) But even with saying that, Chicago was formed a lot at DePaul University and Manzarek was even at DePaul before heading to LA so DePaul University music program will be a great resource for you

Dennis DeYoung Styx: someone mentioned him as a Mendel grad in the Prospect thread but he may have started at Mendel being a Roseland kid but I think he ended up at Harlan High School

Marist: Dan Donegan: Disturbed
He has met and invited Marist students to his shows. I’m sure Marist can help you with any info you are looking for

In all, sounds like a cool endeavor. Good luck on your and your students’ musical journey. Don’t feel weird dropping a link if Edgy’s ok with it when you gather some material
Everyone should read the story why ND plays Navy every year. Google it. It's worth the effort.

I met Manzarek by chance when he was in that fund raiser for the band. Mellowed out a lot in his latter years.

Styx was first a band called TW4. (see wikipedia) They went to Chicago State University when it was on on 69th and Stewart. Up until 1967 CSU was called Chicago Teachers College. In 1970 they were just some guys that sat in the cafeteria a couple of tables away from where my Frat sat. Over the next two years they played almost all our dances. They were very good even before they were known as Styx.

And having Fr. Tom back at SR will pay big dividends for the school and the band. I like all of the new management team. Hopefully they have done a full Exorcism of the ghost of Fr. Paul.

Kevin Cronin - Rice - REO Speedwagon
Johnny Rowan (aka Blackie O) - Rice -Urge Overkill
@Topiary, I did not know that about Blackie O. I was a big UO fan back in the day and was hoping they'd stick around after the major label deal, but it didn't happen. They certainly had great live shows.
