2 possessions in a half? That seems impossibleSycamore had 2 total possessions, in the first half that I saw 1 ended in interception and the other a TD.
Felt like Naz won the time of possession, But Sycamore moved the ball at will when they had it.
Seemed like it, they got a 3rd possession with 33 seconds in the half but chose to run the clock to halftime. Unless I missed a possession, seems pointless now anyway.2 possessions in a half? That seems impossible
This was their championship team. I really and truly do feel bad for the players, the coaches, and the town.Sycamore seems like every year gets so close....
Naz just get 3.35 a play?Seemed like it, they got a 3rd possession with 33 seconds in the half but chose to run the clock to halftime. Unless I missed a possession, seems pointless now anyway.
I believed AND called it after the Sycamore/CCHS game in Mundelein. All credit to Naz for getting this far. Except for the posse, I don't think there were many believers.
Wow long thread but I get it. Feels good when your team is playing their best ball. Naz is on a roll! Good for them and their fans. I feel the same way about the LWE team. They are playing their best in these playoffs. LA is another hurtle for the griffins as is Peoria for NAZ! You got to love the playoffs!!This is the most impressed I’ve ever been as a Naz fan. This isn’t Naz’s best team, probably far from it but here they are winning in uncharacteristic ways (at least for Naz historically).
There has been so much adversity in the last year at Naz. Their “best player”, a would be 4 year starter, transferred out before the season. Multiple transfers were ruled ineligible at the end of the summer. Naz lost a close game to Lemont early, they lost a controversial game to Notre Dame and had two losses where they were manhandled (Marist and St Rita).
It was another frustrating season and one where almost everyone jumped ship. The kids never stopped believing and that’s a testament to them and their coaches. I talked to people at games that said there would be no playoffs, they’d be one and done, this program is finished etc. Lots of overreactions but the negative energy was obvious. It never seemed to find its way in the locker room however.
During the season there was the incident with the QB coach and he needed to be replaced on the fly. The DL coaches daughter was tragically killed on pairings night and the RB/ST coaches father passed away recently and he wasn’t there for the semis. It’s been a whirlwind of a season for those involved and I’m so proud of their resolve.
Being a high school coach is way beyond X’s and O’s. Sometimes you’re a father figure, a big brother, a therapist, a tutor, a disciplinarian etc etc. It’s not just about football, in fact most know it’s really not about football at all. These kids got better, they improved more than anyone could have imagined, they’ve pushed through and come out on the other end when NO ONE believed in them. They earned another week together. THE BEST WEEK. No school, just football to worry about. Practicing together on thanksgiving, a trip to Champaign to stay overnight together and one last game together on the biggest stage. The moments that no one said they’d get they fought for and earned. I know Tim Racki isn’t going to get any mentions for COTY because of what he’s accomplished in the past but this is his (and the rest of his tremendous staff’s) best coaching job ever (at least at Naz it is). I couldn’t be more proud to be a Naz guy this year.
Sycamore was a good team, but as has been the case on this run Naz’s team and coaching staff figured it out and did just enough. Naz adjusted and did enough to slow Sycamore’s run game and get them off the field in the second half. It certainly wasn’t pretty and lord knows it wasn’t as exciting as the other semi in 5a but winning football games against very good opponents is hard to do. Much credit to Sycamore, like I said they were an excellent team. Despite the score they mostly did what they aspired to do vs Naz. Control the ball, go on long drives and shorten the game. They didn’t even complete a pass until under 2:00 left in the game. If I had a criticism it was that they were too conservative but it nearly worked for them. Tough to see a teams season end and everyone was mostly respectful and fun to interact with. They say “this was their year” but that’s a heck of a program that will continue for years to come. One thing I found interesting was how much they hate Catholic schools. It was brought up quite often. People are going to try and rationalize losing however they can so I just smiled and moved it along.
I don’t know what will happen Saturday vs Peoria. They’re explosive and present a whole new test for this team. Some will pick us to lose, some won’t. The INP may show up and get defensive and upset that people don’t like Naz as much as them. I’ll smile because I know this group has already won. The memories are going to be there forever one way or the other. With that said Naz 30, Peoria 26.
After the season you need to get your ass on a plane and come visit your other family…it’s been far to long! This is the most impressed I’ve ever been as a Naz fan. This isn’t Naz’s best team, probably far from it but here they are winning in uncharacteristic ways (at least for Naz historically).

YeahCorey,
Congrats to LWE making the finals!. The semi final score shocked me when I saw it.
Plenty of people say they hate the Catholic schools yet they cling to their rosaries and wonder how their team would fare against the Chicago Catholic Blue. This is the most impressed I’ve ever been as a Naz fan. Plenty of people have a strong dislike for Catholic schools when it comes to high school sports, and that's the extent of it. Most of these same people who dislike Catholic schools (and vice versa) would still not think twice about helping someone out with a flat tire, paying it forward in a starbucks drive thru, holding the door, doing business, or any of the other thousands upon thousands of normal decent human everyday acts based off of a someone's high school athletics allegiance. Anyone who actually holds on to true emotion that effects their everyday well being based on a high school athletics contest (small number on BOTH sides), there's no helping those people.Plenty of people say they hate the Catholic schools yet they cling to their rosaries and wonder how their team would fare against the Chicago Catholic Blue.
Great timing with LT showing signs of life, right? Assuming that would sway some kidsThis is the most impressed I’ve ever been as a Naz fan. This isn’t Naz’s best team, probably far from it but here they are winning in uncharacteristic ways (at least for Naz historically).
