Sugar Bowl Prep for Miles McVay

It has an incoming offensive line class filled with players that want to run the ball.

Miles McVay, a native of East St. Louis, Mo., brings brute strength and physicality. The 6-foot-7, 345-pounder can be a devastating guard or tackle for any defensive player to get through. He made an appearance on The Bama Standard on Tuesday and gave the panel a message that should excite every Alabama fan. McVay spoke about the leadership he will bring to the team as a young player, but he also has the ‘dog’ mentality. He looks forward to enrolling at the University of Alabama this month and participating in bowl prep. McVay has his eyes on one player he wants to challenge if he gets the opportunity in practice.

“With it being bowl week, I am hoping that I can get my shot at Will (Anderson),” McVay said. “I want Will because he’s going to be gone next year, and then I will have Dallas Turner the other times.”

McVay has nothing but respect for Alabama’s veteran linebackers, but he welcomes the challenge of Anderson and Turner.

Tide fans want to see the offensive line return to a level of meanness against the competition, and McVay is someone who can do it.

Seems stupid to me he since hasn’t been in a college S&C program yet, you’re just asking to get dinged up. He would be better off enjoying some time off and starting up in January in the weight program before stepping foot of the field in march.

Or he can compete like he has elected to do and not put limits on what he can accomplish. Just because you don't agree doesn't mean that it is a STUPID decision. Especially since you have no idea what kind of weight program he has been on for the last several months. Interesting take.

I would think Alabama has a pretty good idea on how to handle the situation.

I, too, trust the decision making of the Alabama football program over that of Clownbaby

The biggest jump from high school to college is at the line positions and no matter what he has been doing in the weight room for the last few months it’s not on par with what he is about to encounter. You don’t want to go and ruin a promising career for a few meaningless practices.

They have had a substantial amount of players the transfer portal right now and are short of offensive lineman, they are looking for bodies.

Again, one should assume that the alabama coaching staff is much more informed on what mcvay can and cant do with regards to participation in his first college practices.

I am not confused and understood your point however, STUPID is a strong word that should not be used. Especially when you have absolutely no knowledge of the kid and why a decision is being made. Disagreeing should not equal someone being stupid

“They have to go through acclimation,” Saban said. “These guys came off of playing 15 games some of them, 12, 13, 14, 15 games of high school that just ended a week or two ago. It’s not summertime, it’s not hot outside. That part of it, like, they have to go out in helmets for two days and all that. So it’s beneficial in that they’re in the meetings, they have a chance to learn, they get on the field, they learn something every day.

“They may not get the reps because at some point in time we have to rep the guys that are going to be able to play in the game, but just the experience of seeing what college football practice is like and what meetings are like, how you gotta focus, how you gotta learn. I think to help their development, I think this is really a huge advantage for them.”
