These games will decide the number of 8A playoff qualifiers and thus the smallest 8A school.

Also note, Evanston is really the only 8A school (from the other thirty 8A qualifiers and GW) that could mathematically end up with 5 wins and 38 or fewer playoff points and thus be at the mercy of a bunch of other games determining the cutoff points lottery.

If Evanston does not qualify, Plainfield North would be smallest 8A school if none of the other four 8A bubble teams qualify in week 9.

Scenario would require :
Niles North (2-6) defeats Evanston (5-3)

Pickup only one or zero more playoff points from these games :
Palatine (5-3) defeats Hoffman Estates (7-1)
Fremd (1-7) defeats Schaumburg (4-4)
Taft (3-5) defeats Payton (7-1)
Hubbard(5-3) defeats Lane (4-4)

If that's not drawing to a straight flush on the river I don't know what is.

Looks like someone(Edwardsville?) needs to move up. I was looking at the IHSA playoff outlook page from last week and updating for tonight's results, and these guys all finished 4-5, leaving 31 teams at 5-4 or greater in their 8A outlook:

WV, ZB, DGS, Leyden and Lane Tech

Leyden is 8A. They have 36 points

Well, Neuqua has 5 wins and 37 pts, and can pickup one more with a win by Thornwood tomorrow, but Soucie has indicated it most likely will not be enough for 5-4 team.

So, Neuqua is still not out, yet.
