Jca vs morris

The ONLY good thing about that photo, other than the fact that I'm in there somewhere, is that zero cell phones were out.

After the way the Morris offense operated today I don't see how they get on the board next week.

Brother you just held Peoria to 8 points. At home. The same peoria that put 50 on Morris. Stop sandbagging.
Two things are true of each side in every Morris-JC meeting, at least among fans.....

1) Nervous anxiety
2) Solid Lou Holtzing on each side. We can really talk ourselves into a lather that the other side is going to really take it to us.

All things point to JCA as a strong favorite, but this Morris team seems very resilient. I’m guessing this game will be much closer than many expect.

This game will be very similar to last year.

I’m a big fan of the Morris program, and the town for that matter. I even taught there for a few years. Played some great playoff games over the years vs the Hilltoppers There’s even a game that a certain player took over. I can’t remember his name, but he could play. Can’t wait to renew this rivalry in Saturday. Good luck to all. JC 42. Morris 14

What years did you teach at Morris?

Yeah that JR Zwierzynski game in 2001 still gives me nightmares!

With Morris being over matched in the trenches I'd say they should go full 2001 "lonesome polecat" if they had a more mobile QB.

Remind me. What did you say before the Morgan Park game about Morris’ chances?
Not gonna lie, I honestly thought MP would win. Four 1st quarter turnovers will take the wind out of your sails though. Morris defense played well, but MP couldn't get out of their own way. Morris offense could not move the ball at all in their standard offense, but had success running out of "T", but I don't think JCA will have any issues stopping that.

Weather should be partly sunny and dry, 45° with 5 mph wind from the West.
Probably no surprise on this homer’s pick, but I am taking the Hilltoppers by a few scores.
The O-Line is getting the job done for bruising RBs and I do not envision that changing the rest of the way. The limited passing game has been effective in the playoffs and is miles from where it was early in the season.
On Defense, the front 7 have been the rock of the team all year and continue to deliver as has DiNovo's kicking, which has been a quiet but effective weapon throughout the year.
My lurking concern is Varner being successful throwing to Mumbrue & Wheeler; hopefully those two can be contained.
The program is 20-4 in Semifinal games with the only home Semifinal loss being to Montini in 2012.
A number of the Hilltoppers are baseball players and surely remember too well that Morris knocked them out of the playoffs last Spring.

UPDATED PER USD24 BRINGING MY ERROR TO MY ATTENTION!

Not to nitpick, but aren't the Hillmen 20-4 in semi-final games? They have 15 state championships and 5 second places, meaning they have won 20 semi-final games, right?

Someone please refresh my memory. Before the season, wasn't I reading posts from some JCA people saying they would have trouble making the playoffs this year? Some guys were real concerned. Now here they are in the semi final and WILL be going to the Championship game.

Two things. One, sandbagging is not cool with me. Second, come on. It's JCA. It is expected to see them in the Playoffs. 😃

Here you go, I'll play. The concern was legitimate if you consider that their 6-3 record could have easily been 3-6. The season included a 14-13 win over Fenwick after Fenwick missed a 2-Point Conversion with a minute left the game. They tied the Marist game with a FG on the last play of regulation, then saw Marist doink their PAT attempt in OT, scored a tying TD and got PAT for a 31-30 OT win. Ended the regular season with a 21-18 Week 9 squeaker at Providence. Those 3 could have slipped away and they are a good 3-6 team watching the playoffs. Instead, it says a lot about the character of this squad.

True. But in the end, like JCA does, they won all of them. Don't doubt them and good luck against Morris. Seems like several years ago...maybe around the turn of the Century..I saw Morris and JCA at the stadium for what I remember being a playoff game that came down to...again I think... a winning FG attempt by Morris as the clock was going to run out or would end up being close to running out.

Again, I believe Darlington was coaching at Morris. The thing I remember about him was how I wondered why he spent most of that game further onto the field than half his players....and no flag was thrown.

Maybe you can help me with this. Maybe it was a 4th down play JCA stuffed and not a FG. I think it was a Saturday game. At any rate that was one of the best HS games I ever saw. It does take a back seat to LKPT beating Hinsdale Central at HC in the playoffs of maybe 2002?

Because he must have thought it was a good idea, on 3rd Down with the ball paced in the middle of the field Darlington called a sweep left. Mike Goolsby shot through to throw the ball carrier for a loss, leading to the ball being placed on the left hash mark from where they attempted the winning field goal. The poor kid would have had a dead on attempt but it was not to be.

In '99 Morris played at JCA....had a run stopped on 3rd down and made Morris attempt a long fg goal to win it....kick went wide...JCA won

Didn't help that it was a left footed kicker too.

Arguably, they could have been 7-2 as they lost to Naz by 3 at Naz. Also, if I remember correctly, they took a knee to end the game at PC when they could have scored. The good news is they are in the semi’s! Cheers!

No doubt that they could be 7-2, but there was a mountain to climb in August when they looked at what the schedule had in store for them.
I was addressing the question of "wasn't I reading posts from some JCA people saying they would have trouble making the playoffs this year?"
Onward!
