5 Star QB - It’s Not About the Stars, Its About the Journey.

Heard about this book on a podcast recently and dove into it this week. It’s outstanding and a book many on the board would enjoy.

Book is simply 600 pages of advice from current and former 5Star QBs on their journey through high school and college. Lots of advice from their parents and big time college coaches as well (David Shaw, Lincoln Riley, etc.).

Numerous quotes from JJ McCarthy.

Couple quick nuggets, most of the QBs weren’t into the camp circuit or posting their offers on social media. Feel like the industry tells kids they need to push this stuff but it’s an illusion.

Would recommend this and Matheny Manifesto to any parent with young kids in sports.

Thanks for the synopsis. I’ll have to check it out. I’d also recommend two books about Louisiana HS football. Across the River is excellent. Tells the story of an inner city New Orleans football program. Over the top dramatic and the staff does some insane things, but the situations encountered are very similar to what many CPS environments are like. But the coaching staff goes over the top with how they handle a lot of things and everyone seems totally ok with it for some reason.

An older one from 15 years ago is Hurricane Season about the John Curtis powerhouse in the aftermath of Katrina. Not as much drama in how the program is handled, but a good story nonetheless.

Reactions: rocketnation
I once read a book called "The Hurricane Hurler," about a pitcher who could throw flaming fastballs with either arm. He won the Series in a tense, low-scoring contest. He also got the girl.

All.... Speaking of books I'm looking forward to this one. Not sure how far along the way it is and I believe the author is from Rochester. Anyway a book on Ken and Derek Leonard. The possibilities are endless on subject matter. Should be a great read when it comes out. Ratsy
