How about that? Talk a little Rock and Roll one week and it turns into a class. And that's a great thing but the problem is that the poster tossed bouquets of praise at all of you and that tells me they need a bit more discernment in their lives.

I'm not putting a time down for each game. Our first kick off is 11am Friday between Fenwick and Simeon so 'Make Me Smile' and get your picks in before then.

Good luck to our young men lacing them up this weekend. some maybe for the last time. We are proud of all of you. Now go out there and take it!

[2022] Simeon (Chicago, IL) 28 (53%), [2022] Fenwick (Oak Park, IL) 27 (47%)

[2022] Providence Catholic (New Lenox, IL) 28 (53%), [2022] Sacred Heart-Griffin (Springfield, IL) 27 (47%)

[2022] Nazareth Academy (LaGrange Park, IL) 35 (53%), [2022] Peoria (IL) 34 (47%)

[2022] Mount Carmel (Chicago, IL) 35 (92%), [2022] Batavia (IL) 13 (8%)

[2022] Loyola Academy (Wilmette, IL) 28 (62%), [2022] Lincoln-Way East (Frankfort, IL) 22 (38%)

Friars +1

Naz -1
Bat +22
LWE +6

Stupid spreads made me pick against two of our own. I still think it will be a sweep on Saturday. Good Luck boys!

Fenwick +1

Cheers to the Friars that have used the grandfathered-in-clause, extra 5 weeks correctly. Found a new QB and a bunch of young defenders stepping up. Simeon is a tall order and an excellent team and program. But this is not the same Friar team that bowed out of the state playoffs to a Morgan Park team 14-6. Like any pick'em, or coin flip game, if the Friars do not turn the ball over and can force a couple of turnovers, then they can pull this off. If not, the Friars are already better next year because of these past 5 weeks of competition.

Sacred Heart-Griffin +1

Like Sacred Heart-Griffin vs Joliet Catholic last year, and 2019 Rochester win vs. St. Rita, both games where the 'this is the year' team beat the 'next year is actually our year' team. Now people didn't get to see the 2020 version of St. Rita in the state playoffs (covid), but that was the year with KB's class and Gaughan's class being Juniors and Seniors instead of Sophomores and Juniors as in 2019. That's no disrespect to 2019 Rochester, just a beautifully big, talented, well-coached beast of a team. It is just used to highlight, as is Joliet Catholic's beat down of Sacred Heart-Griffin last year, some years and some matchups are between thee school's absolute best chance vs. the one year away team. In this toss up, I'll take Sacred Heart-Griffin's Coach Leonard farewell team vs Coach Plantz' upstart Celtics.

Nazareth -1

This is the toughest call of the weekend. I refuse to call Peoria's football philosophy 'gimmicky' because sometimes it is just good math and probabilities. And I believe the talent at Nazareth Academy is better in the future than they are today even though, as I type this today, the Roadrunners are very good. This pick is for Coach Racki and his coaching staff. If there is any edge in the game, I trust that crew to find it and exploit it. Most definitely a game I'm waking up early out of my food coma to watch.

Batavia +22

As I have said all year, this Caravan squad is at another level and on a mission. So in no way do I see a let down after their emotional win over St. Rita, That's a hard combo to match. The Bulldogs are also on a mission and they will deliver their best shot for 4 quarters. But other than their all-world Linebackers, I see too much difference in the other positions to overcome over 48 minutes of football. I wanted to take the Caravan and give the 22 but just can't shake the 28-10 final score that has been in my head since when we knew the Finals matchup, so I took the points.

Lincoln-Way East +6.

This one is such a fantastic matchup. Two heavyweights each trading punches until the clock runs out and the bell is rung. I see 34-30, 24-20, 14-10 type of game. While I see Loyola Academy winning in 34,638 of my 50,000 simulations, 44,127 of those simulations had it as a one score game either way. So I will take the points.

Have you fashioned a third gambletron?

@RockSoup thanks for running this and letting newbs like me jump in for the last 3 weeks. This is fun.

After taking a week off for some R and R I am back. Yes I left the barn door open to McCaravan and others to run away with the playoff title, but alas in true Marist fashion always the brides maid and never the bride. Good luck to all. Happy Thanksgiving and of course big thanks to Rock for putting this together and making the season that much more interesting.

Simeon -1

Providence Catholic -1

Peoria 1

Batavia 22

Lincoln-Way East 6

Simeon -1- Simeon big in this. Morgan Park beat Fenwick, Simeon beat MP rather easily. Simeon by 3 scores.

SHG +1- Outstanding run comes to an end for PC, but hopefully they are back to their power days after this year because it make the league better.

Naz-1- I know nothing about Peoria. I'll go with the CCL schedule that Naz fought through over Peoria's.

Batavia +22- Except for maybe Phillips I have take MC's oppenant with the points every game (some of them were ridiculous 50 + point spreads) I'm not stopping now. Rainy day, MC

LA -6. I'll take our fellow CCL Blue Brothers by 7.

Rock, again, thank you for keeping this tradition going and going above and beyond with it! Way to hit em high and hit em low!

LA by a FG....
This is like two WWII battleships slugging it out, not with 16" shells but modern cruise missiles. I can hear Christmas music playing in the background... All it want for Christmas is a field house like LWE! Sorry that was me singing!

MC by 17
This will be the game I try to watch live. The only way MC can lose is if they beat themselves. If there are no 15 yard penalties against MC there is no path for Batavia.

Nazareth by 3
Naz should be the underdog in this one but they seem to be on a roll since their loss to SR. Tough schedule and winning culture help pull out a 4th Qrt win. No matter the outcome congrats to Peoria on a great season!!!

PC by a FG
Very hard to root against Sacred Heart-Griffin. Don’t let PC’s record fool you. PC took some losses during the season to some powerhouse football teams (LA, Wheaton North, SR). The PC game was SR’s toughest win of the season. But I was wondering in the 1st half thru that driving rain if Matt Senffner was up there seeding the clouds....

Fenwick by 1
these extra five week will do wonders for their program. Simeon has a lot of talent. But hard for me to root against a school that produced a Heisman Trophy winner.

Bonus pick
Prairie Ridge by 6**
I watched ESL game last week. They have the best raw talent in the state at the skills positions. Every time they have a ball carrier with a little path of green grass in front of them you sit up to take notice **BUT their lack of commitment to special teams has got to come back and bit them at some point. A shout out to ESL for putting the game on line for free last week. The picture was great. They put out a much better picture than that IHSA thing.

Week 14 Final news and notes:

Full Season Wins Champ: McCaravan (106 wins)
Full Season Win Percentage Champ: McCaravan (an incredible 69.28%)
Playoffs Wins Champ: PJJP
Playoff Win Percentage Champ: McCaravan

Par for Championship week was a paltry 1.57

McCaravan eeked out the win for Playoff Win Percentage by virtue of being late to the picks a couple weeks. Games not played were not added to the total games played number. His tardiness may have cost him the clean sweep but in the end, it pushed his win percentage above the Playoff Champ PJJP's win percentage.

Shout out to PJJP for playing all 163 games. 3ow missed by one by being 45 minutes late on a Prep Bowl game. Makes sense being a Brother Rice guy, not paying attention to the Prep Bowl.

Shout out to STL705. 3rd in the full season win total and finished second by one point in the Clown's Cup. Impressive.

Shout out to all of you that helped me make this season so much fun by participating.

Thank you to Ignazio for picking up the ball for me when I couldn't post the games.

Winners, keep an eye on your mail, Ignazio and I are sawing the Coach Lenti Leadership refrigerator magnet into 4 equal parts as I type this.

Thank you Edgy Family. See you next season!
