FCS home games, fans allowed into the games so why not IHSA games?

All of the FCS in state programs hosted home games today and were allowed 2,500 fans at each game......so if 2,500 can attend in the in-state FCS stadiums.....why not IHSA home games as well?

Asking for several curious friends.....
Probably a good sign that IDPH will be updating the guidelines before outdoor games start. Those were the guidelines for college sports for the fall but the conferences that played (big10) didn’t allow fans.

Especially if the IDPH rolls out outdoor attendance guidance late, the schools might have a real nightmare getting set up. Distancing every single fan is absurd as it relates to household/family units and how that would be verified. Putting a limited number of at-large tickets available online would resemble getting a vaccine appointment. Distributing a certain number of tickets through players, coaches, cheerleaders, etc. would beg the question of transferability of those and ID checks. Counting stadium entries at a single gate could have its own set of problems. I wonder how the solutions found at the pro and college FB levels would translate to the diverse high school settings.

You might be underestimating what a lot of schools can do and have been preparing to do.

Distributing a allotment of tickets to players, coaches and cheerleaders, etc is the easiest thing to do. No ID checks would be required, it doesn't matter who the pass is transferred to. We are not trying to prevent certain individuals from going to a game we are trying to control the number of people that are in attendance. So if they have a pass they can watch the game, simple as that.

remember lots of schools have fields in/around neighborhoods. virtually impossible to keep folks from watching games off school property.

Good point. In the fall, I saw a pic of a guy in Ohio sitting on a ladder watching a HS game from outside the stadium.

Peotone could be a prime example. The east side has the home bleachers which are next to the school. But the other 3 sides are not school property. North side is a village street with a sidewalk along the fence. West side is owned by the park district behind the press / announcers tower - heck, i think the 5 row portable bleachers are actually the park district's. And the baseball diamond on the south side is actually on park district property. The parking is shared by the school & park district...

Likely that lots of smaller towns are going to have similar situations...

2,500 fans saw my Saluki's stun the defending FCS champion NDSU for one of the program's biggest wins of all time.

Was shocked when I saw that my Bizon got housed by SIU.

Thankfully this season doesn't really count 😜

Keep speaking up and fighting this how you can...no guarantee this will be any better for the fall. Still very likely that average joe may not be able to watch a game in August. Sounds crazy, but we always think it'll be better in a few months....

That row of houses in the North endzone at Wilmington should capitalize on this and sell their own tickets to let fans in their backyards

If we really followed science, more fans would be allowed. I live in region 1 and the positivity rate is about to fall below 2%. The entire state is at 2.7%.

At the point they should just change the term to “selectively follow the science.”

It is NOT as simple as that. I wish it was.

I have covered 17 high school basketball games through last Saturday. At each game, I have to register before I attend. then, when I get there, I have to fill out a form (and each school and form is different). I also have to have a temperture check. Of course, a mask is also required.

This is just for basketball. 50 fans. No cheerleaders. No band. Now add those into the mix.

Where do the cheerleaders go? Not all stadiums have as much room on the sidelines.

Do you have a band? Since many instruments are blown into. How does that change where they sit and what you do with them?

With nearly 100 yards seperating stands on both sides, I would hope we could have more than 50 people in attendance. But, this is not as simple as just opening the gates.

Agreed, not simple. However, its not like the season starts tomorrow and schools were just informed today. Schools have had a long time to sort all this out and if they don’t have a plan that includes fans in some

Well if the positivity rate is so low that there is no community spread, then it shouldn’t be hard at all. When the positivity rate hits 1% are we still going to be giving temperature checks and limiting capacity? If we are still worried about social distancing when the rate is 1% then we should just plan on never attending any kind of event. I’m all for protecting others and have no problem with masks but common sense has to prevail sooner or later.

Prior to every Sunday, I register for mass online and walk in front door on Sunday and they check me and my family members names off. We are escorted to a seat and sit together six feet away from anyone else. There are probably over 200 people in the medium sized church. It's a fairly simple process and doesn't need to be over engineered. And this is indoors.

If the gov allows this many people inside a church (as long as they are at some certain % of capacity) then it makes sense at a minimum they could do same at an outdoor football stadium.

schools have to play by different rules. If they go against idph guidelines

If they go against IDPH guidelines, literally nothing will happen. Just like the businesses that did. Zip. Nothing but guidance. I dream of a school this spring that just opens the gates and tell people to be smart.

And the north endzone in Manteno, and the south endzone in Coal City...Mac from the bowling alley parking lot...
