Champ Champ for Althoff???

After the futbol team won 2A this weekend on the pitch, can the real football players follow suit and win 1A on the gridiron? So strange hearing the names Gomric, Ysursa and Myatt playing that other game and I know some of those boys would be starters.

Not bad for a little ol Catholic school in the 618!
Cool story bruh…..

I mean...is it really that improbable? They have a lock on recruiting in Metro East don't they? Is Alton Marquette even any competition?
Mater Dei, Father McGivney, which opened within the decade and has great new facilities. SLUH, CBC, DeSmet ... TOP-TIER prep schools. There is also Cardinal Ritter and Lutheran North, not to mention the all-girls Catholic academies like Nerix and non-seculars like John Burroughs. MANY choices for private education.

Good point...I wasn't considering cross the river options.

It was said that Coach Schott brought more black kids to Belleville than the Bi-State bus. Austin is going to do the same - not to mention, lots of kids were crossing the river, passing Belleville, for schooling if they did not want to go to East Side.

I was born and raised in Belleville. College in Bloomington and Edwardsville. Single professional years in Wicker Park. My kids were born in Naperville. I raised my children in Palatine/Inverness - Pleasant Hill, to Plum Grove to Fremd. Spent 18 months in Waukesha then 28 months in Old Irving Park.

I CHOSE to move back to Southern Illinois - first a temporary place in Smithton with goats, cows and a donkey in my neighbor's backyard. My permanent home is in Sauget - a fine village, Exit 1 across the Poplar Street Bridge.

Maybe you just have not experienced much.

Lived in a couple of different towns in NW Illinois before moving to Belleville in 2000. Relocated to a very nice part of O'Fallon, Ill. in 2020, and don't plan on moving back north anytime soon.

As I was saying, people make strange choices.

Not completely. Schools of origin might be, but the timeframe is not. The starters were not accurate based on the state listing. Also, two are sons of Althoff grads - not outlandish to make that move. Also, the baseball coach came from Granite - not surprised some of his kids followed him. West to Althoff happens all of the time - and vice versa.

Let us address the big two - Dowell and Dierre. Both came after freshman year. Dowell is a devout man of God. His older brother went to Althoff and was coached by the previous baseball manager, who happens to be the Mayor of Sauget, BTW. Cahokia High, the be plain, got very bad. There are more shootings in that village than East Saint.

Dierre's family moved and established roots in Belleville. Born and raised in Centralia, his family moved to STL late in grade school. After seeing that life, they too wanted to escape the violence for a better setting for their children. A few kids came from Ritter for the same reason and already lived in Illinois.

It does look suspicious when generations live on the same plot of land and sometimes the same house all of their lives. But the reality is, there are transient families down here.

Hill came as a jr. played for Vashon frosh and sophomore year. When vashon football and basketball coaches was set to leave he then chose Althoff. Once he came, all others were interested. Getting him was great for Althoff.

No need to defend and enjoy your ship. There are similar stories for all the teams up north that are questioning Althoff.

For me, I wasn’t excited about them being in 1a but the team itself was legit and deserve the title. A 3a win over Montini would have been perfect. It was unfair to Lewin or any other 1a school.

Dierre came in at semester, I believe. I thought it was freshman year, Was still living up north, so I may be incorrect.

Dowell and Hill came in their junior years from my understanding.
