Not often the team with two legit D1 LBs are considered the lesser defense!
Just going by points allowed. Regular season Batavia 133, LZ 73. In the playoffs Batavia is ahead 39-30 but LZ gave up 27 of those last Saturday
I don't know much about LZ but 73 points is really impressive. There does appear to be a difference in schedule quality though between Batavia and LZ. The bottom third of the NSC looks terrible. The Warren win is a really good win though. Should be a low-scoring slugfest.
Batavia is my sleeper team. They might not win this one but I always like one underdog a weekend. My Feeto pick.
I wouldn't say that either team snuck up on anybody.
Batavia wa sone of the top 7A teams in the state in the preseason polls. They lost to 8A semifinalist Lincoln-Way East and by a total of four points to Wheaton North and St. Charles North.
Lake Zurich won the North Suburban. In typical LZ fashion, they play great defense and have only allowed two opponents to score more than 20 points against them. They beat Warren and playoff qualifiers Stevenson and Libertyville. Their only loss was to St. Charles North. They beat both Wheaton North and Pekin on the road.
