Legislations to outlaw tackle football before 14

No youth football to any real magnitude in Chicago is one of the main reasons CPL programs are at such a huge disadvantage compared to the rest of the state. The overwhelming majority of CPL players have never put on equipment before 9th grade. Compare that to other districts where kids are...

    What's best for CPS?

Such a huge difference between CPS and what most HS football fans see as far as coaches in the program. Many suburban/private schools have more exclusive lower level coaches than CPS teams have in their entire programs. In many cases, the same coaches coach both varsity and the lower level...

    What's best for CPS?

These are all of the paid coaches for CPS programs. Tough to build sustained programs with six paid coaches.

    CPS Eliminating School Choice

Sure, this is a huge issue. If you can get a great education at a school with no tuition, it’s a no-brainer. Like it was said in another post, a number of those kids at Northside, Jones, Peyton, and Young have parents with the means to afford tuition. they will not put their kids in a...

    CPS Eliminating School Choice

This is the way I see it. Right now, the selective enrollment schools are the only thing keeping a lot of the kids that are enrolled in those schools in CPS. Those kids will be at private schools in a heartbeat if CPS ends the selective enrollment model.

    CCL/ESCC Program Health

I just can't see that happening. 1- Schools like Northside, Jones, and Payton are consistently ranked as top 10 high schools in the nation academically. There is no way CPS is going to give up these few academic shining stars in an overall dark sky. 2- From a sports perspective, this would...

    Soucie Districts

Agreed. The ability to play football, in any way, is huge for these guys. One thing that will have to change in CPS in a a district format is the ability for a coach and staff to get paid even though they only field a team for 3 games. One of the things that holds a lot of teams back is the...

    Soucie Districts

Fair. Though I think it would be equally demoralizing to play football on a Thursday afternoon at 3:30 in front of 7 fans on a field without lights, yet a bunch of kids do it every week. I also think it would be demoralizing to constantly be told that you can't compete with other kids your age...

    Soucie Districts

I think the majority of CPS teams want to play football against the best competition possible. Contrary to popular opinion on this forum, my experience as a CPS fan tells me that these teams want to be relevant in the state and not just in some non playoff CPS only experience. And yes, I do...

    Soucie Districts

Pretty sure most CPS teams would be in favor of districts. Contrary to the opinion of many, CPS teams want to compete with the rest of the state. If there is opposition from CPS, my bet would be it would be because there would be a whole bunch of people trying to justify their jobs in CPS Sports...

    IHSA 14 Proposals Advance

Agreed. Give me a 3:30 Thursday afternoon Harlan vs. Ag. Science matchup any day in front of 12 people. Kids that need football way more than football will ever need them.

    Simeon Coaching Job?

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Turner left Kenwood to go to Simeon. Both are selective enrollment, so they can both draw players from the entire city, but Kenwood is not a traditional football power like Simeon. Regardless of administration at Simeon, they support sports. I'm sure DeWalt...

CPL Championship Pick 'Em! With Bonus CCL Finals Pick!

CPS Sports Admin is easily compared to a clown car. Filled with plenty of people that don't seemingly do much of anything. A perfect bureaucracy - if you appreciate that sort of thing. I have a hard time believing that there is any one person who has a disproportionate control of anything. Who...

CPL Championship Pick 'Em! With Bonus CCL Finals Pick!

We've finally come to this. The last CPL vs CPL game of the year. In reality, it should be happening on a Thursday afternoon at a stadium without lights, but I digress. On to the picks! Kenwood vs. Whitney Young 12pm Saturday at Lane I'd say this is not the matchup I would have called at the...

    Proposal to replace multiplier

You mentioned Taft from the CPL, so I feel compelled to make a contribution. I think Taft has over 4000 students, though to say they are on the same level support-wise as similar sized Stevenson would be crazy. In addition, like most CPL neighborhood schools, great athletes have options...

CPL Pick 'EM CPL Playoff Edition #2!

Hold on to your hats! (Seriously, it is supposed to be pretty windy on Saturday in Roscoe Village.) It is time for the CPL Semi-Finals! Two Games. One Venue. Of course the fine red coat security is going to make everyone leave the stadium between games, because...obviously, but nothing will keep...

Back by popular demand: my annual playoff mismatch rant

I think this is a semantical argument. As far as the CPL was concerned, Illini was Illini as far as the top two Illini were concerned. Yes, the Redbird had the majority of the best teams, but the top two Illini and the other two Illini were all IHSA playoff eligible. The promotion/relegation was...
