    Production value

After reading Matt Rodewald's tutorial on TV coverage presented on this board many weeks ago, I have changed my outlook from critic to grateful recipient of whatever is presented. Very difficult endeavor for them, especially when we rag on them for not having same inside info as local radio...

Curious, has there ever been another team that faced 10 teams with nine or more wins, as Nazareth did these season?

1A Final - Camp Point Central vs Lena-Winslow

I'm with you 4Afan. Le-Win gets beats by a better team today and people actually think they need to make changes. This is same program that had longest winning streak in the state. It is possible that LW doesn't have the best personnel each and every year and occasionally, they will lose a game...

1A Final - Camp Point Central vs Lena-Winslow

THis game also demonstrates that size is overrated. LW had 40 pounds on man on them, but give me quickness and mental toughness. Gotta love the way GPP plays the game.

    Night games

As a frequent traveler to Salt Lake City, I love how they handle all 6 classes of the playoffs. Games are scheduled Thur, Fri and Sat. Not only that, but they are free to watch online with decent broadcasters and no major glitches.

fallout from end of Harlem-Glenbard East game?

    5A...woof

No, it shouldn't. The reason they are 4-5 is because of tough schedule. Those teams deserve it more than 9-0 teams who don't play anyone.

    Speed Kills - IHSA Track

My favorite part of the meet was watching Bloomington Central Catholic freshman who pole vaulted 16-9. He also plays on baseball team. Not sure about football.

    Speed Kills - IHSA Track

Was looking these results over also and thought same thing. A mini state meet, that's for sure. Lot's fast kids all over the country, including a 46.75 in the 400 meters by a high school freshman from Maryland. Not only that, but it was done indoors. Unbelievable.

State final attendance from the 1970s

The Prep Bowl was still king when the playoffs got off the ground. The first couple years did not feature a Chicago Catholic team. St. Laurence did win 5A in '76 and St. Rita the same in '78. I'm trying to recall if Chicago schools opted for the Prep Bowl over the IHSA playoffs, because it was...

State final attendance from the 1970s

All the talk about attendance got me looking back to when the playoffs first started up with five classifications at ISU. Head count from 1974-78, ranged from 3,611 (1974 1A) to 9,064 (1975 3A). Metamora was biggest draw of the time, attracting crowds of 8,000-9,000 in 3A state finals ('75 vs...

    Announcers

Agreed - we get get spoiled by the passion and knowledge of hometown high-school radio announcers and also jaded by the big-time production of the college and pro game. The IHSA is in a no-win situation trying to compete with those elements in broadcasting the championship games. I know it isn't...

    Class 8A Game Talk here

Noticed that also. Very large men officiating nearly every contest.

    Announcers

Hometown radio announcing teams are substantially better than what the IHSA trots out for TV. Agree 100 percent about the overdose of cliches by 1A/2A broadcasters. It's mind-numbing and the sideline reporting is just as mediocre. An example is TV guys constantly saying something like "this is a...

    Reed Custer 24 Du-Pec 6 FINAL nm

Byron did not have a single penalty against Seneca. That sort of team discipline will pay dividends against Reed Custer. Though not the most talented team in 3A, the Tigers are extremely well-coached.

NUIC conference secures spot in IHSA finals

I thought Chicago Hope might be able to give Forreston a game. Not even close. Of the four NUIC schools left, their combined playoff record against Chicago area schools is 22-3, with no losses since 2010. Even Pec-Durand, one of smaller 3A teams, played Reed-Custer closer than anyone else this year.

    Rochelle 42 - Dixon 36 OT

For pure entertainment and suspense, this goes down as absolute best of first round. Rochelle was running all over Dixon in early part of game, up 14-0 and the Dukes facing a third-and-20. That's when Dixon QB Tyler Shaner (head coach's son) took charge and led his team back with 200 yards...

IHSA shelves 1-32 seeding for Class 6a thru 1A

This is a farce. Even if gas was $10/gallon, parents and fans would still drive anywhere to watch playoff football. It's of far greater importance than money.

    Friday crowds

Largest was Wilmington, followed by Le-Win and Byron. Substantially less were other five teams. Among the classes, it appeared to me that 4A was least attended.
