New: 3-0 Teams......which ones have the best shot at staying undefeated?

Again just digging into the numbers a bit after 3 weeks in the books. Let me know which schools you feell can make a run at an undefeated regular season. I'll do this tomorrow for 0-3 teams I feel have the best chance to break out of this and wind upo as state playoff teams.

Which 3-0 teams can post a 9-0 regular season record?

Normal Community
The Ironmen will face Peoria in Big 12 play..,but can they beat Kankakee this week?
Bloomington- A nice start here for the Purple Raiders but P Town and the Normals await
Peoria- Win over Morris was impressive last week. The Normal's await

Marist- The Redhawks are rolling but some big games await starting this week at JCA. I see a path here for Marist to 9-0 however.

St Francis- The remaining schedule is nasty tough.

Benet Academy A nice start for the Redwings but potholes are on the horizon
DePaul Prep The Rams also have some huge games awaiting.
St. Viator The Lions might have the best path but it's also not an easy path to 9-0 here.

St. Laurence The Vikings get a big etst this week against the Corsairs

Springfield NFL......Not For Long. Look at opponents in Weeks 7/8/9. Nuff said.

Maine West If the Warriors can beat Rolling Meadows this Friday...they have a legit shot.

Amundsen_ Week 6 vs Simeon could end the undefeated dream.
Whitney Young The Nerds take on Kenwood in Week 6 in a game that could be a must win for the Broncos.
Lincoln Park- I see LP having the best overall path to 9-0 here in the Red.

Christ The King Weeks 6/7/8/9 will be stacked and huige challenges

Seneca Could DuPec in Week 9 be the biggest hurdle here for the Irish?

Manteno- See two teams below this one as the biggest challenge.
Peotone See one team below as the biggest challenge.
Wilmington- The one team that's the biggest challenge

St Charles North- This Friday at Batavia will go a long way and is also a huge test.
Batavia See above and below as biggest challenges.
Geneva- The Vikings last four weeks are huge tests

Cary Grove See below
Prairie Ridge See above

Kaneland Look at the Knights schedule...and after this Friday? Wow!
Rochelle The Hubs host Sycamore this Friday.
Sycamore Nothing will be easy here but I like this Spartans team so....

Woodstock North I'm not exactly blown away by anyone in the Kishwaukee....maybe a shot at 9-0 here?

East Peoria The undefeated dream ends in Week 5.

Barrington- Clubhouse favorite in my opinion.
Schaumburg Nice story so far.....but no.
Hoffman Estates The Hawks always seem to be sleepers and will be again here to get to 9-0
Fremd Touchdown Johnny (O'Brien) give the Vikings fans a chance.

Mundelein No.

TF North Love my Meteors but I see several challenges ahead

Argo- The Argonauts take on Richards in Week 5.

Minooka The Indians strength of schedule continues to drop....but they also have a fighting chance at 9-0.
Oswego Clubhouse leader as of today in the SWPW

Fenton Great story but the road gets rocky starting this week against Glenbard South
Ridgewood- Lots of challenges ahead including this week trying to fins the football against triple option West Chicago

West Aurora- I can see a path here for a 9-0 season.

Downers Grove North Really really like the Trojans this season, but the schedule been really not so great so far that scares me a little. Still the clubhouse leader in my mind.
Lyons Township- The fun starts on Saturday hosting a desperate 0-3 GBW Hitters team.
York Weeks 5/6/7 should tell us all we need to know about the Dukes.

What did we learn week 4!?!?

First off, a big shout out to Edgy nation. It’s very flattering to get thousands of views and hundreds of replies each week.

That said, here we go.

1 - That Hersey appears to be ok
2 - That ESL LWE DGN BARR and LT appear to have separated themselves from the rest of the pack.
3 - That defense does win championships unless you can score like Althofd can then it doesn’t matter.
4 - That St Frank went from wow to ow n one week.
5 - That the CCL is beating each other up - weekly.
6 - That I worry about the Hitters. I think many should.
7 - That we should just tell LWE opponents that they will score 49 points - they’ve done it every week so far.
8 - That Wilmington is dominant, again. Bad news for 2A or 3a depending where they fall.
9 - That for all the talk about great quarterbacks in the state, the one at Barrington is pretty good - Maine south found out recently.
10 - That we should worry about Lake Zurich too.

My thoughts from an otherwise tame week.

Week 4 The Underclassmen Report

Each week I will prepare the Underclassmen Report which is a look at which underclassmen names I saw in person and makde a positive impression at each game I cover this season. This week I take a deeper look into some of the better underclassmen names for Rochester/Glenwood and GB West/Lyons Townhip

Rochester Rockets

2026 TE/DE Tanner Beal (6-foot-5, 190 pounds)
Wound up coming in and playing most of this loss to Glenwood at quarterback. Beal has very good height and length and has a frame that will allow him to add more good weight and sze. Runs pretty well and I'll definitely look harder at Tanner's remaining season video hopefully getting reps at TE/S.

2026 RB Kaiden Stout (6-foot-3, 175 pounds) Just another good sized kid here with some potential and upside. Will definitely dig into his fim later this season and this winter.

2027 WR/TE Eli Cox (6-foot-5, 190 pounds) - Maybe the best recruit name here for the Rockets. Cox also has a good sized frame and very good length. Shows to have good on the field instincts and balll skills and hopefully will be able to add more good tape this remaining season. No question Eli is a name to watch in recruiting circles here.

2027 OL/DL Dylan Durocher (6-foot-1, 230 pounds) Overall just a good player and an inside grinder for the Rockets. Could develop into a nice NG/OC type at the next level. Showed to have a good motor and effort and basically just goes hard on every play.

2026 RB/DB Khorbin Gregory (5-foot-8, 145 pounds) Nice running back and defensive back for the Rockets. Needs to add some considerable weight and strength this winter but his overall game. speed and athletic ability is worth keeping tabs on this coming off season.

2026 DB Brooks Gavin (6-foot-3, 175 pounds)
Another good sized kid here who made some nice plays especially in pass protection. Yet another name here that I will do a deeper dive on this fall/winter.

Glenwood Titans

2027 OL Parker Loveless (6-foot-4, 265 pounds)
Good sized kid here who nom question looks the part and passes the eyeball test. Still looks a bit raw and Loveless has work to do in the fundamentals area including improving his pass rush technique....but that's pretty common place for basically every high school defensive linemen.

2026 QB Colten Knoedler (6-foot-1, 190 pounds) Very impressed with not just Colten's game here in beating Rochester, but also impressed with his physical changes and development from a season ago. Knoedler has added considerable weight and muscle, his arm talent is at a high level and Knoedler just played with a ton of poise and confidence. Knoedler still has room to grow, develop and get better but his development continues to rise in my opinion and he has a chance to draw increased recruiting attention this season and beyond.

2026 DT AJ Ferguson (6-foot-0, 234 pounds) Just a good player here who was just a pain to block down in and down out. Ferguson was able to beat opposing offensive linemen pretty consistenly with a nice mix of speed and power moves.

Glenbard West Hilltoppers

2027 QB Omar Valdez (6-foot-2, 170 pounds)
- Still has a ton of work to do but Omar Valdez also has the look and physical tools to continue to grow and improve. I'm planning to look at Valdez remaining video thru this season and also in winter workouts.

2026 RB JaMarcus Kelly (5-foot-11, 184 pounds) Nice running back here who I was not really aware of until this game. Kelly has good size and strength, runs hard and also showed some burst and wiggle.I still need to see more here via video the remainder of the season and I'm excited to see Kelly's development this off season.

2027 TE Brady Johnson (6-foot-3, 212 pounds) Another eyeball passing name to watch here. Didn't get much of a chance to show his pass catching ability in this loss but has the look and feel of an athlete who could play a few different positions in my opinion.

2026 LB Maximus Hetlet (5-foot-11, 200 pounds) Maximus Hetlet has maybe a Top 5 coolest name in IHSA football, and Hetlet is a name to watch. Hetlet plays the linebacker position at a high level, is a coaches son who plays like a coaches son and has a high football IQ. Hetlet is a bit undersized right now for the higher D1 schools but has a chance to play at the next level in my opinion. Has a great motor and is a great tackler and finisher.

2026 LB Jack Davis (6-foot-1, 175 pounds) Part of a pretty strong linebacker group for the Hilltoppers this season. Davis is a name to watch this winter has the frame and build to allow him to add much more good weight and power.

2026 DL Jonah Singh (6-foot-1, 208 pounds) Another name that caught my attentiuon on Saturday and a name to watch this off season and I get the feeling he will be a much bigger and stronger kid a year from now.

Lyons Township Lions

2026 DL Ayman Soltan (6-foot-0, 300 pounds)
Inside mauler for the Lions defense who also showed to have good strength and power.

2026 TE Brady Rusk (6-foot-0, 210 pounds) Could develop in to a go to guy for the Lions the remainder of this season and next. One of a handful of underclassmen starters this season for Lyons Township.

WB6 Week 5 preview

Getting to crunch time. A lot of 2-2 teams looking to get that 3rd win and make their playoff chances look a lot better.

Galesburg (1-3) @ Geneseo (2-2): Last year Geneseo won 43-3. Both of these teams have dropped two straight games and are looking to get things turned around. Geneseo has started strong in the first half of it’s games, but falls apart after the break. Galesburg since it’s week 2 win has looked close to non-competitive against Morrison and Sterling. I think Geneseo gets it’s second half woes figured out and everyone in Galesburg starts waiting for basketball season.

Prediction: Geneseo by running clock.

Moline (2-2) @ Rock Island (0-4): Last year Moline won 28-10. Two teams coming off of tough losses, rivalry game, and homecoming? Everything you love about high school football. Moline has looked up and down this season but they feature a “punch you over and over” running attack. Rocky has been the victim of a tough schedule and inconsistent play. On paper, it looks like Moline should run away with this one, but throw the records out as I think Rocky plays very inspired football and keeps it close. Sadly it will be just a moral victory.

Prediction: Moline by 6.

United Township (2-2) @ Quincy (4-0): Last season Quincy won 63-27. UT is coming off of a very good win over Geneseo last week and looks like one of their more solid teams in recent history. UT is a missed FG and a blocked PAT away from sitting at 4-0 right now. Quincy is on a whole other level though as no one has played them close this season. As solid as UT’s defense has been, Quincy probably still throws for 300+ yards and 4+ touchdowns.

Prediction: Quincy by 4 touchdowns.

Sterling (2-2) @ Beloit Turner (2-3): It’s Sterling’s turn this week to play an out of state opponent as they jump right across the border to Wisconsin. Sterling looked like a it’s old self last week as the defense was lights out and the offense was able to grind down Galesburg. Don’t know too much about Turner, but they seem like a solid team who’s three losses have been close affairs. If Sterling get’s off the bus, I think they can out athlete Turner.

Prediction: Sterling by 2 touchdowns.

2024 Season

Repeat champions in baseball have been rare. However, last year there were 3 repeat champions in Edwardsville (4A), Naz (3A) and JCA (2A). Naz moves up to 4A this year, and JCA moves to 3A.

Edwardsville has won 3 of the last 4 4A titles. Have to believe they are one of the favorites this year. Naz will be a contender in 4A, as they bring back a ton from their repeat champion team of last year. JCA will be a contender in 3A as well. Have to believe Rice will be there in 4A, as they bring back a lot from their 4A runnerup team. Who are some of the other top contenders in 4A and 3A?

CPL Pick Em! Bust out the Pumpkin Spice It's Week 5!!

Week 5 Already? We aren't far away from Hot Thursday CPL Action being moved to 3:30 to avoid it getting too dark! Nothing better than a beautiful fall afternoon watching the leaves fall on a CPL football game! On to the picks!

Little Village vs Munchkin College Prep
I'd make some short jokes about this one, but those jokes would probably go over their heads...
Dunkin!

Fenger vs Bogan
The Fenger Fingers are 3-1 for the first time in a long time. It reminds me of the time I broke 3 fingers on my right hand. I asked the doctor if I would still be able to write with it. He told me, "probably, but I wouldn't count on it!"
Fenger!

Brooks vs Simeon
Brooks plays on the blue Smurf Turf. Simeon calls themselves the Blue Machine. With that said, What's blue and doesn't weigh very much? ..... Light Blue! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!
Brooks!

Ag Science vs Hansberry
Strawberries might be berry sweet friends, but Hansberries always stick together!
BERRIES!

Lincoln Park vs Lane Tech
This game is sure to be played at Lane Stadium, where you can always count on malfunctioning bathrooms and leaky ceilings. So....
How do you tell when a toilet is embarrassed? .... It flushes!
Where does the toilet brush go on vacation?...... to the bleach!
Why didn't the toilet paper stop talking? .... It was on a roll!
NO ONE WINS WHEN THE BATHROOMS DON'T WORK!

Stagg frustrations

I used to play vs Stagg in my High School Days. Some pretty good teams. It seems like each year they start 2-0 vs lower level competition & have some outstanding players such as the running back this year. Then after their 2-0 start they may sneak in a close game or a win but for the most part get pummeled. It’s frustrating to see. I heard the area has changed as I believe a lot of Hispanic & Middle Eastern go there & they are soccer players for the most part but I just checked & very little Middle Eastern & not even 30% Hispanic so I’m not sure the issue. I think they need to get out of the conference they are in although they tried to get in the conference with Shepard,Argo,Reavis, etc almost like the old Sica North but were denied. Will they ever turn the corner?

Feetos Friday Upset Special......

Let me start by saying that I finally had the privilege of meeting our guy Edgytim last Friday night, and it was truly a pleasure. Now on to Upsets. I think this weeks pick is a guarantee, it's the ultimate trap game. Tonight's upset is...... The 2-1 number 18 ranked Mustangs of St Rita over the Undefeated # 6 Spartans of St. Francis. Francis is high as a kite right now, coming off a very impressive 14 point victory over LA. I don't ever remember them bring ranked this high. Their offense is putting up huge numbers every week. They are the talk of the town, and it's Homecoming. Now here come Coach Hopkins and his Mustangs. Rita has a fantastic defense, holding Br. Rice to 1 score last week. QB Steven Armbruster is hitting his stride, especially late in games. Should be a great game in Wheaton tonight. Final score.....St Rita 24 - St Francis 14. That's this week's upset. What are your thoughts and who is your upset?

Oak Lawn vs Richards trouble

OAK LAWN, IL —Two teens were arrested and charged with simple battery after a fight broke out Friday evening in the visitor stands at Korhonen Field during the Richards v. Oak Lawn Community High School football game, Oak Lawn police said.

The altercation unfolded at the Richards High School’s homecoming game on the visitors side of the field during the halftime fireworks show where Oak Lawn students and families were sitting for the Bulldogs-Spartan game. Numerous Oak Lawn students and fans were escorted out of the stadium by Oak Lawn police, a parent attending the game told Patch.

In an email that went out Saturday to parents, Dist. 229 Supt. Shahe Bagdasarian sought to provide some clarity to dispel the “many inaccurate rumors that have been posted on social media.”
Bagdasarian said the verbal and physical altercation that broke out during halftime was initiated by a high school-aged girl “who is not an OLCHS student.”

“Several of our cheerleaders were unfortunately attacked … At no time were any weapons involved, nor were there any major injuries, contrary to some reports on social media,” the statement read.
The superintendent also confirmed that parents and students were removed from the game.

Arthur Mrumlinski, a Richards alumni who was attending the game with his children, told Patch that the gates to the Richards homestand were locked for 15 minutes as Oak Lawn students and fans were being removed en masse from the stadium, preventing Richards supporters from leaving.

“It was clearly visible from the Richards side and it escalated,” Mrumlinski said. “Police cleared the entire Spartan bleachers.”
Mrumlinski said that he watched at least seven kids sprinting out of the area during the fracas, as police were running full speed to the visitor bleachers.

As far as the weapon rumor circulating neighborhood social media, “some idiot yelled ‘gun’ during the halftime fireworks show,” Mrumlinski said.
During the game’s second half, the visitors bleachers were empty except for a videographer on the Oak Lawn side of the field. The second half continued with Richards beating Oak Lawn, 68-12.
CHSD 218 Supt. Josh Barron said the altercation broke out on the visitors side of the field. He said responding police departments and D128 security did an excellent job of making sure the game continued without further incident and getting people home safe.
“Sadly there is too much of this going on in high school sports,” Barron said. “We have magnetometers and cameras. Our security drives through our [high school] parking lots looking for suspicious activity and open cars. I feel for kids today, there is a lot of trauma. We’re always striving to figure out the safety standard and getting the funding for safety. I think we do a better job than most.”
Meanwhile, Bagdasarian is encouraging parents to talk to their students about the importance of resolving conflicts constructively and understanding the impact of their actions on the school and greater community.
We hold our students and fans to high standards and take student conduct very seriously, especially during school-sponsored events. We are actively investigating the incident to identify any OLCHS students involved, and I assure you that appropriate consequences will be enforced in accordance with our school and district policies,” the D229 superintendent said.
