8A - LWE - Best team I saw all year. Nuff said.
7A - BATAVIA - Hottest team in 7A catches MC at the right time (after Rita).

So what is Illinois getting in 2024 Mundelein OL Brandon Hansen?

Illinois added its first commitment in the 2024 class today when Mundelein 3 star ranked OT Brandon Hansen tweeted out his verbal commitment announced earlier this afternoon.

So What Is Illinois getting in Brandon Hansen? Overall I love this "get" by Illinois on a few different levels. Hansen has been a known name in recruit9ing circles since the start of his sophomore season for the Mustangs. Hansen, who has taken part in a handful of the EDGYTIM showcase events was a consistently strong performer at those events and in more than a few camps was the top overall linemen in attendance. Hansen has really impressive strength, power and punch and he has also continued to develop his overall game, fundamentals and technique. Hansen shows definite improvement from his sophomore to his junior season on the field (see his junior Hudl below) and his added and strength was pretty evident this past season. Hansen, who was recently named as an all conference performer will most likely also be an All Area player.

What I also really like about Brandon Hansen is his overall motor and work ethic. He's bought into the weight room very early, seeks out and works with a few different trainers and his desire to get better and become a dominant linemen and the desire to get his game to a higher level is evident. Hansen still has some work to do and is far from a college ready linemen. Hansen still needs to work on and improve his overall bend/agility and feet and his lateral quickness can always be improved. However, these various issues can be worked on and improved over the next year plus and let's face it....these are many of the same technique and fundamental skills that all high school level linemen need to work and improve upon.

What this decision means for Illinois? Again it's early for landing 2024 but it's a nice start. I truly feel that Hansen right now is slightly under-rated and I can see his ending up as a high 3 to low 4 star player. Hansen is a really good kid off the field, seems to be a genuinely hard working, blue collar non nonsense guys. Illinois I believe was one of the first schools to get serious with Hansen and it was pretty evident early on that Illinois had built a good, early relationship with Hansen which just paid off today.

I've said for some time now that as far as the recruiting clock is concerned in my eyes it really begin with the Class of 2024 for Bret Bielema and staff. The staff has been in place long enough now, they have worked the in state kids and coaches pretty hard for a year plus. In many ways I believe Illinois got a too late of a start to make any real significant inroads with the 2023 in state kids (although landing a Malik Elzy/Jyaire Hill would be a nice boost) but the scoreboard is now on for the Fighting Illini staff and recruiting the Class of 2024 and beyond.

EDGYTIM's Star Ranking? I say Brandon Hansen will wind up as a high 3 low 4 star offensive tackle in the Class of 2024.

Feeto's Friday Upset Special.....

It's so hard to call anything an upset this late in the season, because every team left is the best of the best. That being the case, I'll still try. This week's upset is...... The #25 ranked and 8 point underdog Spartans of Wheaton St Francis over the highly favored Celtics of Providence Catholic. This Francis offense is out of control. They seem to light up the scoreboard every week. The Provi D was questionable earlier this year, however they have really tightened this up lately. Like I said earlier, it's hard to pick against anyone this late in the season, but I like the Spartans tomorrow afternoon in Wheaton. Final score Wheaton St. Francis 28 - Providence Catholic 24. That's this week's upset. That are your thoughts and who is your upset?

Provi vs. St. Francis

Haven't seen much posted on this match up. I've seen Provi three times this year. They are a very well rounded, fundamentally sound team. They are diverse on offense. Can run and pass. Defensively, they are very good against the run and somewhat susceptible to the pass. And their special teams play is outstanding. How does St. Francis match up? I know the Spartans have some high end talent. From what I've read, they've been their own worst enemy at times. Provi will not beat themselves. St. Francis will need to cut down on the penalties and self-inflicted wounds to win. Thoughts?
