Metamora 28 – Sterling 9: Might be the youngest I have ever seen a Sterling team be. A lot of Sophomores and Juniors on the field…even a freshmen at linebacker. Metamora got a few long explosive plays and kept Sterling’s offense in check. On the positive, the young kids played tough and stonewalled Metamora several times. Once Sterling’s youngians figure things out, I think they will grab some victories.
Dunlap 48 – Galesburg 0: Not a whole lot went well for Galesburg in this one. Dunlap came out fired up from the start and just rolled. Unsure if Dunlap is just that good, or if Galesburg is just that disjointed. Might be a bit of both.
Moline 41 – Rockwood Summit (MO) 40 OT: Wasn’t able to watch any video from this one, but from piecing together recaps, this was a close game until Moline wore down Rockwood with it’s run game and started to pull away. Rockwood would end up getting to scores in the last 3 minutes, with Moline having to block an extra point to send the game to OT. In OT, Moline got it’s point after….Rockwood did not. Moline seems like it is ready for a good season this year, specially if their run game is clicking.
Quincy 40 - Quincy Notre Dame 12: Sloppy game by the Blue Devils with LOTS of penalties, blown assignments on defense, and a bad INT tossed by Little. On the flip side, Quincy’s Oline is huge, skill positions are fast and talented and Little was a surgeon with the ball. Defense still shows the same weakness as last year as QND managed four long, sustained drives with two of them ending in the endzone.
Minooka 49 - Rock Island 14: This was a closely played game for the first 18 minutes of the first half until two quick scoring drives and a pick six right before the half blew this game open for Minooka. Second half was Minooka overwhelming the Rocks with size and speed. Rocky has some kids who can move on offense, especially the QB. Defense got tired and started to be sloppy with its tackling. Penalties also killed as several Rock Island touchdowns were called back.
LaSalle-Peru 18 – United Township 16: For most of this game, UT’s defense held LP mostly in check (LP’s point thru 3 quarters came from a KO return and a short field from a muffed UT punt). UT’s defense really only broke once when LP connected on a 57 yard TD pass in the 4th to take the lead for good. Most of UT’s offense came from speedy Isiah Navarrete who broke 53 and 81 yard touchdown runs and finished with over 200 yards rushing. UT had a chance to win late, but a drive stalled inside LP’s 10 and the 4th down FG was no good and LP ran out the clock.
Geneseo 48 – Chicago Comer 0: Geneseo is back under center! All is right with the world! Comer had a 6 and a half minute drive to start the game before being stopped on 4th down. After that it was all Geneseo as they ground and pound their way 1970’s style to a big win. They played pretty clean and efficient. Be able to figure out more when their level of competition goes up.
