What is the Game of the Year going to be?

Last few years its felt like Mt Carmel/Loyola has been the most anticipated game of the year. With Loyola with two losses thus far appears that’s not going to be it this year.

So what do we think the most anticipated game this year is after three weeks?

Batavia vs Geneva is what I’m leaning towards right now .

ICE Week 4

First third of season is done, not much separation after this last week. ICE is still divided into 2 distinct groups.

Herscher (1-2) @ Reed-Custer (0-3) - RC is still fighting to get its first win of the season. If Herscher did't have the win earlier I would say this is a RC favored contest, however, Herscher has shown that it can win a game. I am not positive that RC will be a favorite to win the rest of the year. I think Herscher plays a tough game at first then opens it up later on. Herscher 35 RC 20

Lisle (0-3) @ Coal City (2-1) - Should be easy Pickens for the Coalers. I don't see this one being close. CC 49 Lisle 7

Streator (1-2) @ Manteno (3-0) - Manteno is hot right now and the town is buzzing. No worry about Peotone which is in 2 more weeks. I like Panthers to roll it up. Manteno 45 Streator 24

Peotone (3-0) @ Wilmington (3-0) - GOTW! Both teams have three big wins and have been putting up points. I don't think the 'tone can slow the Cats though. Give me Wilmo at home in a brawl. Wilmo 35 Peotone 21

Once again a pretty straight forward week. RC Herscher is the only game that I see having potential for an upset. I feel like this will be the recurring theme most weeks 1 decent game, two blowouts, and then a game that could go either way just because both teams are trying to fight their way out of last place.

My power rankings stay the same after last weeks beat downs

) Wilmington
2) Coal City
3) Manteno
4) Peotone
5) Herscher
6) Streator
7) RC
8) Lisle

What did we learn week 3!?!?!?!

I’ll admit, I am not a believer in Friday the 13th curses and all that. After this last Friday, I may have to change my stance.

1 - That Libertyville deserves our attention.
2 - That ok Lake Forest, we see you.
3 - That the gap between LWE, ESL and everyone else is growing.
4 - That Sandburg, once a year does that Sandburg thing…….
5 - That DG North is scary
6 - That Mt Carmel’s offense is elite. The defense?
7 - That Althoff is making small schools great again.
8 - That Fremd football looks to be back.
9 - That weirdness extended to small schools - the NUIC Friday - weird.
10 - That Providence could be in real danger of missing the playoffs.

Stay well

New: 0-3 Teams.....which ones can turn things around?

Again just digging into the numbers a bit after 3 weeks in the books. Let me know which schools you feel can bounce back from an 0-3 start and make it into the IHSA state playoff field.

3-0 Teams Which teams have the best chance of posting a 9-0 regular season record?

0-3 Teams

Chicago Leo-
Week 6 brings DelaSalle and a chance to get in the win column. But playoffs? No.

I don't see any of these three Central Sub North teams beow making the playoffs

Niles North
Highland Park
Vernon Hills

St. Edward
The Green Wave have been in a downward spiral the last year plus....fingers crossed they can find a win in 2024.

Crystal Lake South Week 7 at the team listed bwlow could be the Gators best chance for a win. odds are ther Gators could find a few wins here.

McHenry Can the Warriors get one this Friday against Dundee Crown?

Lisle The early schedule has been BRUTAL and should lighten up.
Reed-Custer- Despite the record for now this program remains in good shape and has good numbers at all levels.

Buffalo Grove I just get the feeling if anyone here can turn thing around and challenge for the playoffs it could be the Bison.

Elk Grove The Grens have been close in all three losses and should find it's way to a handful of wins.

Oak Lawn The Spartans have been competitive in all three games and should find it's way to a few wins here.

Hillcrest Can this be the biggest surprise at 0-3? I can see the Hawks getting things put together and this team can also potentially get to 4-5 wins.

Plainfield East It's gone down really really fast at PE and more than a few have told me they might go 0-9
Plainfield Central The Wildcats will get things going soon and get a few wins this season.

Neuqua Valley Stunning to see this name here who should find a way to a few wins this season.

DeKalb The Barbs are anoiher name I thought would have a better showing. I can see them get a handful of wins here.

OFallon Stunning to see the Panthers here. They should get a win or two later in the regular season.

Alton Rough rough early schedule form the Cardinals that should ease up later in the season. Look for wins potentially in Weeks 8 and 9.

Bartlett The Bartlett offense has struggled but they have a lot of bad left on the schedule and should win some games.

East Aurora- The Tomcats I thought looked decent this summer. Oh well.

Glenbard West Rough first three games and a fourth this week at Lyons. It won't be easy...but why do I have a feeling the Hitters aren' quite dead here just yet?

Rock Island - What happened in Rocky over the past handful of years? This proud traditional power program is a shell of what it was for decades.

Preliminary Week 5 EDGYTIM Chicagoland Top 30 poll

The obvious issue I have is with Maine South at 1-3. Lost by a TD to Barrington and the strength of schedule for the Hawks is unquestioned Saw the Hawks live in Week 1 in person and despite the lopsided loss to LWE liked what I saw in general. I see the Hawks winning out here and getting some momentum. Yet 1-3 is still 1-3. I'm open to suggestions.

MMXXIV Edition - CCL-ESCC Predictions Week IV

As we approach the turn, a tip of the tam o' shanter to undefeated St Francis, Marist, DePaul, St Viator, Benet Academy and St Laurence. Recall that in the old days, an 8-1 record wouldn't guarantee you a playoff berth - only an undefeated record would. With that in mind, I'd probably go with the Wednesday afternoon game between Viator and Deerfield or maybe the Laurence-Stagg matchup. Then I'd watch Tim Weigel eagerly hoping he'd report the Benet-Ridgewood and Marist-Bogan scores.

STL Teams Testing Themselves Against Nation's Best

The Cardinal Ritter Lions faced St. Augustine High of New Orleans in a showdown at 7 p.m. Friday at venerable Tad Gormley Stadium, winning 36-20 in a historic 26,000-seat stadium, can set the tone for a third consecutive title run. “That’s why we do this,” Coach Brendan Spain said. “In the end, we feel like no matter what happens, it will help us in the long run.”

Lutheran North traveled to Alabama the first week of the season to face Central High of Phenix City. Central won 30-12, but Crusaders coach Kyle Wagner said the loss against a super tough opponent will bode well for the future.

CBC, a five-time Missouri state champion, last season played four non-league contests against teams from outside the region with trips to Carmel, Indiana; Bryant, Arkansas; Lipscomb, Tennessee; and Warren Central, Indiana.

From 2021-23, Lutheran St. Charles played against Parker Lutheran from the Colorado Springs area, including a trip to the Mountain Time Zone in 2022.

Nowadays, teams like to travel to showcase their players all over the country. Schools find other top-notch teams to play essentially through word of mouth and reputation.

East St. Louis played host to Baltimore St. Frances last season after the teams faced off in 2022 in Ohio. Later this season, East St. Louis will get a visit from national power IMG Academy.

“It’s the only thing that gets you better,” East St. Louis coach Darren Sunkett said. “You want to play great teams. It gives kids something to talk about when they get older.”

Cardinal Ritter left Wednesday for New Orleans and will return on Saturday.

The Lions have won 31 consecutive games, including a victory two weeks ago against Class 4A Illinois power Rochester. On Oct. 11, they’ll play host to Bishop Miege, which has won seven state titles in Kansas since 2014. “This is something the players have had marked on their schedule,” Spain said. “It’s a true test.”

Sunkett said last week’s visit to Philadelphia was a relatively smooth excursion for East St. Louis, which won 28-21 against Newton, Ga., at home Sept. 7.

Lutheran North’s trip to Alabama in late August had some serious bumps in the road. The Crusaders bussed their way to Phenix City. First, they had to change busses three times before even leaving the area for various reasons. They got into town 12 hours behind schedule.

“Our guys went out and battled,” Wagner said. “When it comes to national rankings, these are the kind of games you want to play.”

The difficult trip might still pay off in the end.

Wagner said his team learned a lot during the time-consuming affair. “Things don’t always go your way and sometimes you just have to overcome and move on,” Wagner said.

WB6 Week 4 Really Speed cap!

Busy weekend for me, so you all just get the quick and dirty this week.
