What did we learn week 4!?!?

After making his IHSA Football debut on Friday the 13th, my daughter's Black Cat "Stinky" is now 2-0 for JCA. They weren't necesarilly the most attractive wins, but against a quality opponent, a win is a win.

He didn't seem to be concentrating and paying attention as much against Marist, like the Fenwick game when he spent the entire game on my keyboard.

Now JCA enters the hardest part of their schedule and Stinky really has his work cut out for him.

I suppose he could be convinced to root for your team for a small fee. He's usually willing to work for Turkey meat, Chicken Nuggets or Lactose Free milk. :)

Hero to Goat

I was out there yesterday and they had such an opportunity and blew it. I've never seen that place so packed. East grandstand was full and on the west side we were packed in like sardines. They've had attendance issues at games post pandemic ( I had season tickets before but haven't since myself), and that could have gotten so many alumni enthused, but they blew it.

CS8 Predictions-Week 4

All.... Estl last two games are with Edwardsville and IMG. The game with the Tigers is a home one and I don't forsee much of a problem with that one. So at worst they finish the regular season at 8-1 as will the Titans. An edge on playoff points to Estl. But it would be fun to watch a Saturday game in Chatham with these two. Titans don't want a return to the House of Pain. We will see. Ratsy
If The o-line of ESL do a better job of blocking and the defense wrap up and do a better job of tackling the IMG game will be closer then people think and maybe even a ESL victory. Will see but better th those those things mentioned will have to happen

CS8 Predictions-Week 4

I can't compare the 2019 vs 2024 East St Louis teams but can weigh in on the two Titan teams. The '24 team has an advantage in their passing game and possibly on special teams. The '19 team had a much stronger running attack and was bigger and more physical on both sides of the ball. Apologies to cornerrat who has heard me opine on this before, the '19 Titan team was right there with any SHG or Rochester championship team and still trailed East St Louis 28-0 at half before losing 50-28.

I have real concern for Lisle’s program (and therefore the current construction of the ICE conference) going forward.
Lisle, to my understanding, does not have any lower level teams, has low numbers on the varsity roster, and has been getting absolutely pummeled every week.
It’s really quite shockening how bad they are with their location.

Lisle and Westmont shouldn’t be this bad

All.... Interesting article in Springfield Journal Register concerning the Chatham/Rochester game. I'm not familiar with the correspondent that wrote it but the header is as follows. Titan-sized statement: Lopsided win has Glenwood eying state

Yes it was a punishing dominating performance but in the article quoting the Titan qb he talks about state and November 30th. Kids wil be kids I suppose. Coach Hay goes a different calmer avenue with what he says. I have never been a big locker room material person. Not that they need it but if I'm Coach Sunkett I'm going to buy todays SJR paper and save it. Not sure if this Titan squad is a better then the 2019 team but both Chatham and East St. Louis will once again be in the postseason 6A south bracket . Ratsy

Glenwood 45 Rochester 17 final

Rochester came in to the game playing like they were going to be handed a win. They were lethargic and looked confused. Carlson and Beal were under pressure constantly because the Rocket O-Line was porous and lazy. The Rocket D was dismantled by superior play calling by the Titans as well.

DL needs to get whatever ails them figured out. At 2-2, the Rockets are in danger of not even being playoff eligible with U-High, SHS, and SHG looming.

Credit to Coach Hay and the Titans...great win for their program!
All..... Quit the gnashing of your teeth Mr. gloom and doom. One game at a time as they say. By the way the Rockets will pound U High. Not much film out and about on the Pioneers but I have seen enough. My opinion of course. Ratsy

4a/7a/8a are wide open this year. Great to see.
Not to sound cocky but I still think LWE is on another level than any others in 8A. If they played DGN or LT who you would bet money on. I want to see LWE vs LA personally but I don’t know that will happen this year based on how LA is playing this year. Hey it’s HS so anything can happen but I was putting money down I am betting LWE.

All.... Well that went out the window last year for some reason. Sitting back silent and doing nothing could be mistaken for complicity and acceptance. Not an acquired taste for many especially the old guard who behave. But it is what it is as they say. Ratsy

What did we learn week 4!?!?

First off, a big shout out to Edgy nation. It’s very flattering to get thousands of views and hundreds of replies each week.

That said, here we go.

1 - That Hersey appears to be ok
2 - That ESL LWE DGN BARR and LT appear to have separated themselves from the rest of the pack.
3 - That defense does win championships unless you can score like Althofd can then it doesn’t matter.
4 - That St Frank went from wow to ow n one week.
5 - That the CCL is beating each other up - weekly.
6 - That I worry about the Hitters. I think many should.
7 - That we should just tell LWE opponents that they will score 49 points - they’ve done it every week so far.
8 - That Wilmington is dominant, again. Bad news for 2A or 3a depending where they fall.
9 - That for all the talk about great quarterbacks in the state, the one at Barrington is pretty good - Maine south found out recently.
10 - That we should worry about Lake Zurich too.

My thoughts from an otherwise tame week.
DGN and LT haven’t separated from York. At least not yet. Let’s let those games play out.

A good ten years hasn't put them in the top ten, which should be the minimum requirement for greatness.

St. Rita 31 @ St. Francis 13 Final

The 28-0 is a little deceiving. Was 14-0 at start of the 4th. Rita had been inside the 5 and missed a FG. MC was in control the whole time but the score is deceiving.
Dang it DOS. Great perspective again. I never mind what the public perception is of the first game of the season between the two storied programs.

The teams are close skills-wise. Big MC advantage with Elliot and a noticeable MC advantage on the lines but could be schemed even. I don’t want to be the guy that says 28-0 was a close game. But a playoff battle would be an excellent exciting HS football game if it comes to that. Still 105-17 MC over SR in last 3 meetings. That must change.
